I can see where some may assume Whippet or possibly Italian Greyhound when looking at the tuck of the belly and the long slender fore legs but actually the tuck and even the slender fore legs is common in the Dal. The head and rest of the body do not show Whippet. The Whippet is larger than the IG and smaller than the Greyhound. It is in fact a mix of the 2 breeds. The IG was originally referred to as a Miniature Geryhound til some 100 years or so ago when it was officially named the Italian Greyhound. Many believe that there may have been a 3rd breed, another sight hound that was used but to date no one knows for sure. All 3 breeds, IG, Whippet and Greyhound show nearly all the same physical attributes just in 3 different sizes.
The pics are of my IG's/
Bella the female blue and white and Charlie the male red and white. The whippet looks nearly identical to the IG just larger.
Another thing to note is if you look at the breed standards and pics on the AKC site you can see the find fore legs and the tuck I mentioned. The breed is not a heavy breed and is actually very quick and agile. I grew up with a purebred that could easily leap the 6' fence in our back yard. If you look at the Whippet you will see that both breeds have standards of height nearly identical and roughly the same over all shape less head shape.
