American Pit Bull Terrier questions
I'm Really starting to like the American Pit Bull Terrier.....how do we know if we would be a good fit for the dog or the dog would be a good fit for us?
I'm really starting to like the breed. Well the wellbred ones atleast. I'm noticing them a lot more lately.
What does it take to be a good APBT owner
A year ago I wouldn't have even considered it but in the future I think I would like one. (in the far off future)
My experience with breeds growing up have been: Labs, boxers, and poodles, beagles. Those were dogs family members had.
I had a Shih Tzu and two poodles.
As an adult I currently have a Minature Poodle and a Jack Russell Mix (who is about as strong as my uncles boxers)
My husband has had a snauzer and a Old English Sheepdog.
So what makes a good APBT owner and how much dog experience do you have to have.
(I have had my taste of terriers with my current dog and I love the terriers)
It would be in the far off future like when our current dogs pass on maybe even longer. I want to do a lot of research first and know what I would be getting into.

most apbt's are high energy at least until they get older. they require at least 1 to 2 full hours of exercise a day..split into two times. lots of attention and need to be well socialized from a very young age to help keep the dog aggressive-ness out of them. they need to begin being trained as soon as you get them. i began training mine at 8 weeks the day we got her. they pick up on the training very fast but you have to work with them every day to ensure that they are getting it all down. with pitbulls you cannot allow them to think they are the dominant one in the family. i have a 9 month old daughter and my pitbull and her are best friends. i know probable 40 other people with purebred pitts and not a single one has ever had any problems with aggressiveness, attacking human, dogs or anything except rabbitts and squirrels. they are always very eager to please their owner and they also have a great desire to succeed at whatever they do. they have immense heart and courage.
