I am new here but would like to know what breed of dog is best to have for children age 7 and 9 ? Our son and family are living on the family farm and would like to get a dog...thank you, Betty Ann

pretty much year after year the 2 top dogs that are best suited for children due to their temperament and tolerance for children are the Lab and Golden retrievers. Others are the Bearded Collie, Beagle, Basset Hound and for outdoor children your age, German Shepherds do very well. They love outdoor play so if you kids are outdoor type then the GSD would also be a good choice. Others to consider are the Miniature and Standard Schnauzers, Poodle, Bichon frise, Irish Setter. In the smaller category, West Highland Terrier and Corgi.

thank you so much for replying...they were looking for a choc. Lab or any lab at the dog pound...there was a young mother and 8 babies found in the ditch along the road here and they were taken to the dog pound but they were adopted out before we found out about them...
