HI! Welcome to the forum.
I'm not that good at guessing but I have a book that shows pics. of different breeds and tells a little about each one. I think you may be right about it being an American Staffordshire Terrier--as it looks like what I have in my book. I will quote you what it says about this breed. First though, want to comment on how loving it appears already to your 2 yr old (boy?) and the eyes---2 distinct dif. colors---very noticable. One of the main reasons to comment here on this breed is: BE AWARE---To avoid dog fights, keep leashed in public. Although it is a courageous and tenacious fighter if provoked, and needs firm, kind training to control this instinct, its basic temperment toward people is gentle and loving. Must have plenty of regular exercise. Don't overfeed this breed as they are inclined to put on weight and become lazy. Excellent watchdog. Daily brushing with a firm bristle brush, and bathe or dry shampoo as necessary. A rub with a piece of toweling or chamois will make the coat gleam. HEALTH PROBLEMS--Although not particularly long-lived, this breed is reasonably free of genetic weaknesses.
Some dogs, however, may develop cataracts. Stoic and reliable, it is a dog few strangers would mess with, yet with its own family, this powerful, fine-looking animal is devoted, gentle and loving. Male: 17-19 inches (shoulder height) and 40-50 #s Female: 16-18 inches and 35-40#s.
