I'm not sure what kind of dog he is, but I can tell you he still looks very young. Probably about 7-9 weeks if I had to take a guess.
Did you guys put the collar on him, or is that how you found him? I would look into finding the original owners before deciding whether or not to keep it. Puppies are infamous for getting loose.

It's hard to say how big he'll get without knowing his breed, but judging by his paws I'd say he'll at least be a medium sized dog. It's especially hard to judge because he's so under-nourished. Is he eating kibble?

yeah we got him some puppy food,
he was sleeping on my bed with me and i noticed he was covered in fleas!
after a nice bath i'd say hes 80% flea free now.
That's so cute... i love the pic with the shoes... he's so tiny...
Hopefully no one is looking for him so you can keep it. sorry but i dont know what breed it is.
probably 5-8 weeks...
i can't figure out what breed is he...
but no matter what breed is it pls. keep the dog...
he really needs a home...

please let me know, cause we need to know to keep him or not.
I don't think it should matter what breed he is or how old he is. You found him in a bucket and it seems like he doesn't belong to anybody. That should be as much as you need to know; he needs a home!
