Default Is this a Westie?

I've recently bought a West Highland White Terrier. It has arrived last saturday, 2months old now. Anyway, we have serious doubts: it is a westie, but it doesn't really look like one. Have we been fooled?

He looks like he is most likely a Westie but a poor quality one. When you say arrived... where he is from exactly?

He sure looks like a Westie to me but, I would doubt that he's a show quality dog. However, that basically means nothing. I have no doubt that the little guy will make a wonderful companion and that you'll have many wonderful years together. A show quality dog is not "the be all and end all."

He was delivered from Hungary; several days by truck, the poor guy. The strange thing is that my neighbour also has a westie from the same place, but he would make any westie on the planet blush, he's beautiful.

I don't care much, he's a great companion, but it still slightly bothers me.

I have never had a Westie, but I did work in a Pet Store that had Groomers and he looks like a Westie to me.

He definitely looks like a Westie to me, just not a show quality one like others said.

he looks like a westie to me and i have 2 friends that have one which looks like him where the muzzle is longer than on the more show quality westies, where the muzzles are shorter. the ones with the longer muzzle are how a westie use to look, before they started breeding to get the shorter muzzle like you see in the show ring today.

he will probalby be a delightful friend and companion to you:-D

Definitely looks like a Westie but sorry don't know how anyone could pay money to someone like this. Sounds like it must come from a horrendeous background, wouldn't be surprised if its mother isn't bred on every season.

Which country are you in? Were there no proper breeders where you could go and see at the very least the mother and the rest of the litter?

Not having a go at you but I just feel so sorry for how this pup must have come into this world.

Have a great time and hope that he's found a wonderful new home.

The point is, if you didn't intend to show your dog, what difference does it make if she doesn't conform to "breed standard"? My little shorty jack russell has a pedigree that goes back six generations (for whatever that is worth) and she isn't eligible for the show ring. She has too much black in her coat and has a sort of grey colour on the top of her head.

On the other hand, she's a sweet, gentle, loving dog and I wouldn't trade her for 100 show quality dogs!
