Default greyhound

Hey Everyone,
If you read my post about Buddy you know that I have a standard poodle who lives in Atlanta with my parents. We got a poodle for the hypoallergenic aspect because of my allergies. However, I've always been intrigued by greyhounds and have always wished to be able to adopt retired race dog, I've just never thought it possible.

Recently I've read some things that their coats, while they are not considered hypoallergenic, are better than a lot of other dogs (goldens, labs, etcs) for allergy sufferers. I know the only way to find out what works for me is to spend some time getting up close and personal with a greyhound (no skin off my nose, I'd love to do that) but I just wanted to find out if anyone here has any experience with this? Any allergy sufferers have a greyhound and do ok?

Thanks,
Meghan

P.S. Any questions I ask about dog breeds are just general questions, I can't get a dog right now, would be at the very minimum 1 year could be as long as 5 years. I just like to do lots of research. :-)

Well, nobody in our family has allergies to dogs so we don't have direct experiance but through our greyhound rescue I did hear of a family with two children (8 boy and 11 girl...if my memory serves me correct on the ages) that really wanted a dog. The parents loved greyhounds and even more loved the fact that they could rescue an x-racer, so they asked if they could "doggy sit" for a long weekend and see if their daughter (who had pretty bad alergies) had any reaction. Last I heard the grey they took home has found a place in their hearts and no allergies have reared their evil little heads as of yet...and it's been about a year now.

That's some exciting info! Guess the only way I'll know for sure is to spend some extended amount of time with a greyhound, which I'd love to do.
Thanks for the response!
