Could be a JRT crossed with Daschund.

well i know he has jack in him, but really you think it could be daschhound. he is really that big, he is quite small. so my thoughts were maybe he is crossed with another small dog. anymore thoughts though would be great.

Daschunds come in two sizes, little and not so little. Maybe you're more familiar w/the bigger ones, but they do come quite small too, and i'd also guess Daschund mix, though it's hard to tell from the photos, but he does look kinda long in the body.

Does anyone know what my new pup might be?
We were originally told by a shelter that our pup was a 3 mo. old German Shepherd mix but at our first vet check-up we were told that it's likely an Akita mix at 8 to 10 weeks (weighs 14lbs). After reading up on Akita's I'm a little scared of them to be honest. We raised a Rottweiler and he was the best dog I've ever owned, so we don't have any prejudices toward maligned breeds, but all of the literature I can find seems to say that Akita's are dangerous to other animals, don't like strangers, and new children are not welcome (we plan to have children in the next 2-3 years). This puppy is absolutely adorable, smart, and very well behaved but 6-9 months from now he'll be a dog that exhibits his innate traits. It would break my heart to return him to a shelter but I need to do what's right for my future family and the pup
Thanks for any help.

Definitely not a drop of german sheperd or akita in that pup!
My educated guess (been in dogs my whole life) is Wire haired Miniature Dachsund mix, possibly with JRT.

Jack russells also come in regular size and "shortys".

I wouldn't worry about it as much as the internet says. Every dog is different even if the breed says one thing. A few friends of mine have 3 akitas and a 2year old and a brand new baby. They haven't had any issues with their dogs since the kids were born.
