It's obviously the training and upbringing that sets the pace and outcome for the dog's behavior for the rest of his life. I don't know who you've talked to, but it doesn't matter the breed, if you abuse, neglect or train your dog to be aggressive, give poor/no training etc. at an early age, they dog will be an unruly and agressive mess.
It's all about the training and raising of a dog, regardless of breed. A dog who is raised and trained properly with love and care will be a great dog, whatever breed they are.

thanks, its my sister and dad who says the breeds will naturally be more 'aggressive' but i think its the way you bring a dog up.
naturally those breeds may be more dominant and want to be 'pack leader' which is why in my opinion they may become more agressive as they are allowed to rule.
with the proper training and leadership i think they can be some of the best breeds to own, i have watched Ceaser Millan work on the tv and he has the pack which has many of those breeds and he is so inspiring and i think people need to re think their ideas of the breeds

naturally more aggressive' well than I have a Dobe here that didnt get that memo, lol.
It begins with the breeder and them breeding only good temperaments, then it is all about the upbringing and training.
My mom had sheperds around when my kids little, I have a 2yr old Grandbaby I raise and we have a dobe.
Always been a wonderful experience in both cases.

I'm going to get a lot of flack here...I have no problem with these breeds for myself. I would greet them, play with them, etc. However, I would cross the street to keep my girls away from a pit bull or pit bull X. In my experience. they are very friendly toward humans but, extremely dog aggressive toward other dogs. I am not willing to take the chance of my girls being attacked.

thanks :-) | The only one on the list I haven't personally lived with is a Rottie. But, I agree with you completely. It isn't a breed issue, it's a people issue. I fought BSL (breed specific legislation) in my own community, but lost. They ended up banning pit bulls and American bull dogs. I went to city council meetings, wrote letters to the editor, spoke to city officials-all to no avail. Unfortunately, the news media doesn't help. They rarely report positive stories about these breeds-just the negative. So, we end up with the public being misinformed. What we need is proper education. Where are all the success stories on the "Vicktory" dogs in the news? Predictably absent. Let's report about vicious pit bull attacks, but not about the success of rehabilitating and rehoming this supposedly "vicious" breed even after these dogs were trained to fight. I love my pit bull Jade, and also have a rescue, Dora, who lived most of her life on the end of a chain being bred to raise fighting dogs. She's a sweet dog that I'm hoping to find a home for in a pit bull friendly community.

I also believe that it is all in the up bringing and training also. I live with a Shep and I have friends that have up to 3 Pit's at a time and none of us have had any issues with any of the dogs because we have all trained them and raised them in loving social environments. Now having said that any dog can get snippy with people or other dogs just like we can, in the way that they just don't like eachother but you can't help that. It's thanks to non-dog people and the media that these breeds get a bad rap. I know that people have crossed the street when they see me coming with my Shep...people even do that now when I walk both my Shep and Greyhound. Like they are killer attack dogs...HaaHaaHaa ...only if you are stuffed toy with a squeeky in it.
