Breed of my new puppy
Hello,
I recently adopted a puppy from a pet rescue, they believe she is a terrier mix. She is very small (less than 5lbs) and wire haired. Does anyone have any thoughts on what she could be, i'm very interested.
I have attached two pictures, it's my first time posting so hopefully it works!
Thank you,

Welcome to the forum
I see Jack Russell Terrier and the face also reminds me of a pic I have of a Papillon (definitly not the ears but the facial coloring and markings) Lol, those pics look like 2 dif. dogs! But as far as the 1 pic.--Looks a lot like the Jack Russell to me but wait till Lara's Mom sees your post as she has a Jack Russell so is very atune to them. And Yogi has a Papillon!

Thanks for the response! I was thinking she might be a Jack Russell Mix due to her size and facial features. Her temprament is very very calm (than again she is a baby) The photos do look a bit different, I was having a hard time getting a photo of her sitting still (hence the blurr) but she loves having her belly rubbed therefore that picture is a bit clearer. Thanks Again!

Lol, Will quote you what it says about temperment from my breeds book: Happy, excitable dogs that love to hunt. In fact, they'll chase just about anything that moves. They make vigilant watchdogs, but are sometimes scrappy with other dogs. Smart and quick witted, they must be firmly trained from an early age, but settle well into family life and make devoted pets.

I would say there is too much colour to be wholly Jack Russell but she does have a Jack Russell look about her (Jacks are my favourites!) She could be Jack crossed Papillion although that was the first dog we had as a family when I was a child and she was quite a solid little girl - more of a Jack with a Pap head - perhaps there is some chihuahua in the mix as well?
Whatever it is she is gorgeous.

Thank you everyone for all of your information...I certainly love her regardless of what she is. I was just very curious. I defintely can see Jack Russell in her as well but she is certainly a mix. (Her litter consisted of puppies that were all tan, black and tan, and ones like herself) So certainly a mix.

Hello There,
It's been a few weeks since I've followed up but I am starting to think that my pup is part Sheltie. She is now almost 11 weeks old and weighing close to 4lbs. therefore she is certainly mixed with a small dog breed.
I have attached an updated picture.

I still see Jack Russell in her but, those long ears speak of something else in the mix. She is absolutely adorable!!!

I too still see mostly Jack Russell terrier! It says in my breeds book that the coat may be smooth and short, broken (very short wire) or rough and a little longer.---so there are 2 types of coats! As far as the ears being too long--according to pics in my book--the 1 pic shows about the same size ears as yours, but (Lara's Mom) I am also wondering if the ears grow faster than the over-all head---The head will get bigger but will the ears? And still think papillion as a mix too and like someone else said here--maybe chihuahua mixed in too if not papillon (Could even be a mix of more than just 2 breeds also!) I can't see any sheltie myself! Another thought about the ears--If part Jack Russell and part Papillon--the ears could be a size in between the 2 dif. breeds!
Your pup is still growing and will be heavier when full-grown but will give what my book says for the full-grown weight of the 4 female breeds I mentioned above--and the sizes too. You realize of course that your dog being a mix, could fall in between all the weights (sizes) given but should not be smaller or larger than the 'numbers given. And the height is from shoulder down!
Jack Russell----14-17 lbs and 9-14"
Papillon------7-9 lbs and 8-11"
Chihuahua---2-6 lbs and 6-8"
Sheltie-----12-16 lbs and 12-14"

Corky/Max:
Actually, there are three different coats that jack russells can have - smooth, broken and rough. Lara and my new boy (who is still with his mama are rough coats.)
The ears actually tend to grow pretty well in sync with the dog.
