Default My Dog, What is he, we can't figure it out.

He got a dog from the Edmonton Humane Society a while ago, and they said he was a husky cross when he was a pup. He got really big, his paws reach up to my shoulders (I'm 5'9) when he is on his hind legs, and he weights around 100 lbs, maybe a bit more. Can anyone help on what he might be? We looked at some hosky/lab crosses, they look really similar but they dont have the block spots all over like he does.

Default Guess

I'd guess this dog is a German Shorthair/ Border Collie mix. The sporting breed may be something else... lab or something but I definitely see a large sporting dog with a herder like a border collie.

We originally thought he may be a pointer cross too, but he is much larger than what I see listed as average size for a pointer, at the shoulders, he is about 26.5-27" tall, and like I said, around 100lbs, he's really strong, and solid. As far as temperament goes, he is assertive, but not aggresive. He likes to get right in the action and sniff things out, but he would never hurt a soul, he is very very gentle, but sometimes like to act as if he's top dog.

Question What a Mix---Tough one!

I am wondering how many mixes there could be here! It has the face markings (tail) and color of a Border Collie but the weight and height of a bigger dog like a Bernese Mountain Dog or a Borzoi; a tail like a Siberian Husky (and possibly the feet). Other mix possibilities Shorthaired German Pointer and 'way out'--Dalmation markings----Those 'spots' really are a baffler! You know a dog could have as many as 3 different mixes to it! (Don't know if possible to have more than that-- unlikely I would think.)
Am going to leave a link here that has a lot of pics. and descriptions of dogs--but you will have to keep in mind the possibility of what combo all these could have to influence your dog's make-up!
