Trying to figure out if I own Beagles, and if they are mixed with another Breed.
Two weeks ago, a really good friend of mine found two gorgeous puppies/dogs. We have reason to believe that they are brother and sister due to their relationship with each other. However, they look differently. These poor babies were on the verge of dying. Every bone was sticking out of the girl and the little boy shook uncontrollably for hours. My friend took them in and began to give them holistic treatments for heart worm and began giving them vitamins. My family and I wanted to just adopt the little girl. But after seeing the two interacting we could not bring ourselves to separate the two; so we took both of them. They are doing so much better, I cannot see the little girls bones anymore and the little boy is happier than ever. We have already grown so attached to these dog/puppies. I have no idea how old they are yet until the appointment with the Vet. However, we are so curious to know if anyone know what breed(s) they might be. It is so difficult since they look differently from each other. We think that they are mixed with beagle, because of some looks and how vocal they are. Some of our friends say they look like Dachshunds, but I do not see this trait. Any ideas are welcomed. Sadie is the little girl she is all light brown with short hair. Chance is the little boy he is light brown and white with long hair.

How big are they, and do you have any idea how old they are? I don't see a whole lot of beagle there, but maybe some. Certainly they are a mix of a couple of breeds. I can see dachshund, but it depends on their size really. The red and white one looks like she has Brittany Spaniel in her, both look a little spaniel-ish.
They are sweet looking dogs, and lucky to have found you! Thanks for taking them in!

Welcome to the forum!
Can you measure how tall each is (from shoulder down) and what does each weigh? How current are the pics--Sadie looks like she could use a little more weight on her and might make guessing a bit easier. I also wonder if they are not siblings. And I sure don't see any dachshund in either. There may be a little beagle but I am more inclined --Sadie: some golden retriever or lab--But she needs to weigh more! Chance: First thing that came to mind is a Brittany and then golden retriever. The ears of Chance reminds me of golden retriever. His coat reminds me of one somewhat to. (I have a cocker/golden retriever mix). Other members may have some good guesses but be patient as the weekend is usually slow! I am leaving you with a good site to check out--Click on all breeds at top of page.

To Cookie
Corky and Max, (Sorry this is response to Corky/Max) I got the post mixed up
Sadie does need more weight, we have only had them for a bit over a week and was found two weeks ago by tomorrow. The pictures were taken last week. She is not to the point where we do not see her ribs anymore. We are also beginning to believe that they are full grown and are not going to get any bigger than what they are. They do look like golden retrievers, however they are fairly small dogs. Thank you for your Reply, it is very much appreciated .

Cookie,
Sadie and Chance are not very big. About 15 pds (and counting). I will not have an idea to how old they are until their vet appointment. I am going to have him look at their teeth. I know that they are over 5 months old, and I really am not seeing puppy traits in them. They have their K-9's (which I do believe they get those when they are older; correct me if I am wrong). They were easily house broken and they have learned their names in less than a week and are very well behaved. Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. I looked at pictures of Brittany Spaniels, and Chance does look like them except smaller.

Thanks for taking the poor pups in!
They are obviously beagle but I also see some dachshund as you said. Especially in the first pic. The other dog does have a longer coat, but they still look very similar otherwise and are probably bro and sis. Because of the longer coat I'd say there also may be a pinch of spaniel in there. There are long haired dachshunds too you know.
Look closely at the faces/stance. How about the ears? snout? Can you see the dachshund now?

Hello Todd,
No need to thank me for taking these babies in. They are an addition to two cats and another dog that we have rescued. They have blended into the family quite well.
Looking at the dachshund picture that you sent, I can see the resemblance to Sadie, however Chance (long hair) his nose is exactly.
When I was talking to the vet about my new dogs, I was also told that a female canine can get pregnant by two different male canines at the same time. I know that they look differently, but they have a bond that I have never seen with animals other than siblings. Which is why we are convinced they are brother and sister.
Thank you for your response.

Yes a female dog can be impregnated by two males but I do really think these two are bro and sis. Besides their coat lengths, they look very, very similar. Remember, being that they are mixed breeds it's not uncommon at all for some pups in the litter to have a short coat and others to have a long coat. Dachshund's come in a short haired and long haired variety. The pup with the long hair just could have inherited the long hair gene. Yes I truly think they are bro and sis and very well could be from the same father as well.
