Yes exactly! They put many, many greyhounds down every year after their racing career is over. Very, very sad.

first of all i love the alaskan malamute since i was young . but now i have to choose carefully because i have married and got a 3 years old boy .
secound i need a very very calm dog which do not like to bark .

should i have a ...
1 - rottweiler .
2 - german shepherd .
3 - alaskan malamute .
4 - great dane .
5 - bullmastiff .

i have read a lot a bout dogs .
but i need a clear answer from people got real experience with theses breeds .

notes :
i live in a nice apartment .
i need a dog to run with and a long daily walk also .
a big dog to protect me and my family .
i need a smart and gentle dog with my family .
and the most thing i need is a calm dog .
Well I grew up with two Alaskan Malamutes and as far as I am concerned they are just awesome! They can be a bit wild though and I really don't think an apartment is a good place for them....I tried it once...Although if they get the exercise they need, then it might work out.

If you have owned one, then you know they are very good with people and as far as kids go, you can't go wrong. They are wonderful dogs!

You might also consider a Golden Retriever as they are very gentle and love kids. They are also very smart and usually pretty calm. They make great family dogs also!

One other idea is do a search on "Victorian Bulldogges", they are a newer breed and not recognized by the AKC. A lot of people think that they are just "mutts" but they are not. Their personalities are excellent for apartment living and for kids.

Yes a golden may be a good dog, but there is some research going around that goldens are becoming more aggressive because of poor breeding so watch which breeder you get it from if you get it from a breeder and if it's from a shelter make sure it's friendly with your kids.

I suggested a Golden right back at the beginning. I think this is one of those threads where the OP disappears and never checks back or has read the posts and doesn't like the answers!
