what breed?
Can anyone help me out here. I recently just got my dog from a shelter. They seem to think she is a husky/hound mix. I've tried google but can't seem to find much. So anyone wanna take a shot at what she is. She is 3 and full size. Thanks.

I am guessing Siberian Husky for part of the mix and the only hound it could resemble I think would be the Norwegian Elkhound. Kind of resembles an Alaskan Malamute a little too but this would be 20 or so lbs. heavier than the other 2 breeds I mentioed. How much does she weigh and how tall--top of shoulder down? What did you name her?
Here is a good link to look up (pics. etc) on the breeds I mentioned and any other breed you might want to check on:Dog Breed Info Center®, DBI Just click on the words All Breeds at top of the page

Akita, Shiba Inu. The breeds could be endless. If you really want to know, you could elect for a DNA test.

Very cute!

Wow thanks for all the replies. She is 36 lbs. not sure how tall she is. will have to measure her. She was already names so we kept it. It's Maggie. I'm so unaware of all these hybrid breeds. Was doing some research on all this yesterday but I know too little. She is a very calm dog. Very well behaved. I had a very hard time seeing the hound in her wich is why I posted this. I was trying to look up her breeds just to get a feel of there character and what is best for her. I'll look up what you all suggested. Thanks!
I added 3 other pictures. Those are some of her brothers and sisters. They came in a group of 11 and she was the only one there that had the husky look. They are all from the same litter according to the breeder. They bred them for sleigh dogs to realise it didn't work so well. And they are all marked as alaskan husky/hound. I can see the hound in the other ones....

Except for Maggie, they all look like Beagle mix. Maggie is gorgeous, and I want to throw out there Husky/Border collie mix.....whatever she has in her, she's really pretty.

This helps explains a lot as there is no real breed of dog called Alaskan Husky. It is actually a term given to dogs bred for sled dogs which are nearly always mixed breeds. Mushers put different breeds together to try and create the best sled dogs. Over the years they have used many breeds including the "Husky", Malamute as well as St Bernards etc. These mixes were given the general term Alaskan Husky. Which is why they feasibly could have so many different looking pups in one litter. In the others their could be Akita, Norwegian Elk Hound which explains some of the markings and body shape. Spitz is a possibility in some when looking at the ears ie: pointed, whether standing or not. In either case, they are a mix of generally several breeds including hounds. As for being an actual breed, not really.

Going to give the weigt and height for the female breeds that have been mentioned --from my breeds book. These are the statistics for the 'average' of the breeds--naturally there are exceptions to the rule but this is the 'usual' ranges. And being a mix could make a difference in the size and weight somewhere in between the mix that it is! It can help a little at least in trying to guess the breeds. So here goes: (Putting the biggest breeds first)
1. Akita---75-110 lbs----24-28" (Too big ?)
2. Alaskan Malamute--70-85 lbs---22-24" (too big?)
3. Norwegian Elkhound--40-55 lbs---18-20"
4. Siberian Husky---35-50 lbs---20-22" (note that the Husky is a little taller than the Elkhound but not quite as heavy)
5. Border Collie----27-42 lbs---18-21"
6. Shiba Inu---18-28 lbs---13-15" (too small?)
You said she was full grown/3 yrs. old and weighs 36 lbs! We do not know the height yet. (top of shoulder down)
A beagle is considered to be in the hound family. Being that Maggie looks different then the rest of the siblings--You are aware that there could be more than one father!! Actually that is what happened with my Corky--He was the only one who had a Golden Retriever for the father. He was a lot prettier and completely different looking. Of course they all had the cocker spaniel from the mother! Anyway here is the weight and height of a female beagle---weight-20-23 lbs and height-13-15" (In case the siblings might be part that!)
