help identify my breed please! :)
i got this puppy from a rescue.. and they told me he was a scottish terrier.. he is looking more like a cairn terrier to me.. but his nose seems a bit too long to be a cairn, and his legs seem too long to be a scottie...what do you think? maybe cairn/scottie mix?
thanks..

I think it looks more Cairn then Scottish going by the pics you show---May look dif. in person. My bro. has a Scottie and its face is more squarish/oblong than what I see here. But you are right--could be a mixture--I wonder if the Scottie's ears are bigger than the Cairn's--just a little? It could also be a 'designer dog'---a Cairland Terrier . I am going to give you links to these 3 breeds (although the Cairland is not considered a breed technically.

As you can see --the scottie has a very very long snout!

I see both there. I'd say a mix.
Very cute!

yeah, thats kind of what i was thinking, but he is only 4 months old right now, i have looked at pictures of 4 month old cairns and none of them seem to have a nose as long as his is now, which that is why i was thinking part scottie.. they say the nose on a scottie dosent stop growing till about a year, so maybe his nose will still get longer? i have no idea.. most young cairns still have a short nose.. and his head seems too narrow to be a cairn, arent their skulls wider at the top?
thanks again..

now im wondering, because his neck seems to be very skinny, if he isnt a miniature schnauzer, he has the colorings on his feet, but not his face.. so maybe scottie/schnauzer mix? lol..

Lol, I'm all 'guessed out' right now but there could be some min. schnauzer there too. Your pup is not done growing and will change in looks as he grows to adulthood. It will be interesting to see what he will become! Hey! Suggestion ---Take pics each month till he is full grown to compare the differences. And keep us posted as he grows--new guesses may be altogether different in the future. Do we pretty much figure he must be from the terrier family at least!

ill add some new pics.. from the looks of the markings on his front feet, it reminds me of a salt and pepper schnauzer, but he dosent have white on his face like those pups usually do.. thats why im thinking schnauzer/scottie mix.. orrrrr schnauzer/cairn mix.. argh.. this is frustrating, haha.. he seems to almost have the cairn attitude though, he is very forgiving..

It very well could be a mix of both since first the Schnauzers ears do not stand where the Scottish ears are natural standing. The coats share similarities and Scottish Terriers also share the bushy brows like the Schnauzer.

heres another pic.. he looks really scottie in this pic.. but he still seems too tall to be scottie, especially since he is only 4 months old, i mean he is very short, its just his ribs dont come down between his legs like most scotties do, im definately thinking cairn scottie mix.... just keeping you all updated

hi, i have a seven month old pup and i brought her as a full lab with full pedegree 5 generations. i love her to pieces and wouldnt change her for the world but she doesnt look like a full lab to me. she was quite poorly when i first got her and she spent two weeks in the vets and everyone keeps saying shes just small because she was ill. would be great if you couold take a look and suggest what she might be a lab crossed with. btw shes defintly half lab as i saw her mum however she was a little long also and had a soft looking face like my pup

she definitely looks like a lab to me.. of course because she is only 7 months old.. she isnt full grown yet.. so i would wait till at least a year. many labs have different qualities about them, i had a purebred lab, and he had a huge square head compared to other labs i have had, but all the labs i have owned have been purebred... each lab has their own characteristics.. another lab i owned had a head just like yours, kind of skinny and pointy.. it really just depends on the lab i guess.. but i can definitely tell your pup is a lab, thats for sure, other than that i would wait a few more months to see if anything changes when she grows out of her puppy stage..
im actually kind of curious as well because your pup seems to be a bit dark, there are 3 colors of labs, black chocolate and yellow.. she could be a yellow lab, because their color seems to lighten as they get older, she is too light to be a chocolate, but almost too dark to be a yellow.. hmm..
heres a pic of a 7 month old yellow lab.. see how yours seems to be just a bit darker.. i mean it could be just the puppy coat that needs to be really brushed out.. or.. she could be mixed with something that has more of an orange coat.. also if she was ill, maybe she isnt growing as fast as a healty lab pup would, so that could be a factor as well.. how long has she been healthy again?
wait! she looks like she is mixed with a vizsla.. i will upload a pic of one.. they are more orange and many people confuse those with labs, as well as weimeriners are confused as labs too..
ha, now that i look at your pup more.. it does look like she has a vizsla head on a lab's body.. hope this helped!

great help
hi thanks for your advice it was a great help! with regards to her colour that is fairly normal as fox red is actually the original 'old fashioned' colour for a lab. both pictures you showed di show very similar ears and faces but i think she would be much bigger. ive been looking on the web and think she may be a spanador the first picture i found on the web and looks very similar to my pup and its a spanador (spaniel cross lab) the second is of lola my pup.

ok guys.. heres a more recent and better pic of my puppy! hope this one is a better representation for you all to guess!
i think i have it narrowed down to either cairn/scottie.. or minature schnauzer/cairn or minature schnauzer/scottie.. haha
he seems to be a bit too tall for a scottie body, but he has a long nose like a scottie.. (remember he is only 16 weeks old and already seems to have a longer nose than a cairn at that age) thats why im thinking minature schnauzer cause hes a bit taller than a cairn and scottie at his age...
ugh..
thanks again...
