Default What breed is my dog?

We got it free from an old co-worker and THEY told us it was a jack russell/rat terrier mix. We believed them but here lately we've been seeing other breeds of dogs that look almost exactly like our dog. Any ideas?

I've never seen either of those breeds with a brindle coat, that could just be me though. I definitely see some Jack in there, maybe one of the parents was a jack russell MIX or rat terrier MIX so the pup got traits of that unknown mix.

I don't know much about Rat terriers - don't think we have them in the UK - but I do know Jack Russell's and apart from the body shape which is similar to lots of small terriers I don't really see anything of a JR in your dog. The brindle coat is definitely not from a Jack Russell and I don't think Rat terriers are brindle either. I have to agree with Jenn - there are probably far too many breeds in him to pick them out.

The Rat Terrier is actually titled the American Rat Terrier. It is an American breed. Which is why many outside of North America do not know much about them.
These were though in part originally a UK breed. They were then introduced to the US and cross bred with the smooth coated Fox Terrier, Beagle and Whippet.
The original "Rat Terrier" in the UK was a cross of the smooth coated Fox Terrier and the Manchester Terrier.
In the US, the again crossed it with the Fox Terrier and introduced the Beagle and Whippet. At that point it was given the name America Rat Terrier.

He looks to me like a whippet with something else mixed in. Especially with the brindle coat.
