Default Pit/Beagle?

Hello!

I've been curious since day 1 as to what breed my dog is. I rescued him as the inevitable "lab mix" that all pound dogs manage to be.

Hamish I think definitely has some pit bull in him, but he's really small. His most heaviest, he weighed in at 44 pounds. He's black with a white chest, and his legs show some brindling. He's got massive feet but stumpy little legs. He comes up to maybe my knees (I'm 5'4). He's well muscled and incredibly strong.

He's super energetic, needs a ton of exercise and likes to shred anything and everything when bored. I'm thinking he may have beagle in him?

This is just for curiosity's sake. No plans to breed or anything like that, and I can't afford one of the DNA tests you can buy.

It won't let me post pictures, so here is a link to my photobucket album with shots of Hamish.

He's a very handsome chap. How old is he? Is he fully grown?

44lbs sounds very heavy for a dog that is only up to your knees but he doesn't look overweight at all, just a muscular build. If you hadn't mentioned his weight I would have thought either Patterdale or Staffie.

We think he's around 3, based on his teeth. He's extremely muscular. Right now he's got a couple of pounds he could lose. Due to an ankle injury he's not getting walked nearly enough. But he's a solid dog!

If you were in the UK I would definitely suggest Staffie (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) / Patterdale cross but not sure if either of those are so common in the States.

He looks like a staffy mix to me. BTW, I noticed you have the choker chain on wrong on your dog. Having it on backwards like that could choke your dog and cause serious injury. When you hold your choker chain up with one end dangling it should make a P. Take your collar off and turn it around. Then it would be ok. I seriously believe that if pet stores want to sell choker chains, they should at least come with instructions.

I honestly dont think he's a cross at all. He looks to me like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. NOT an American Staffordshire Terrier. Staffies are quite small, height wise, but built solid. I met someone with a staffie a couple of weeks back, and people asked them all the time if it was a pitbull beagle cross! LOL. So no, I dont think there is any Pit Bull (Am Staff), or Beagle in your dog. But good for rescuing! and GORGEOUS dog!

edited to add:
Ok so after going back to look at the rest of the pics, (I only looked at the first pic) He doesn't look pure Staffie, but if you crossed a staffie with a lab, you could get him. His coat's a bit feathered on his hind legs, and his ears aren't righ for a Staffie. But not beagle, at all! I wonder if you crossed a Staffie with a BC or a Springer, what would you get? not suggesting that's what's in him, but Something made me think of that! LOL

I agree. I definitely see staffie. But no Beagle at all.
