We are in the process of adopting this dog from a shelter and are trying to figure out what she is mixed with. She was picked up as a stray, seems to be about 2 yrs old and weighs 40lbs. She is playful and loves to fetch.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

So lovely to see a needy dog being given a good home. To me she looks like a Hungarian Wire haired Vizsla. Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association

It would certainly explain the lighter colouring and whiskery face.

I'm thinking maybe Chesapeake Bay retreiver also; believe it or not my orthopedist has one and brings it to his office. His wife is the office manager and he stays in the back office with her. I have seen the doc taking him out for walks. Occasionally you might hear a very deep "woof". Their coat is a little less smooth than a labs and this dog's seems similar to that.
