I just saved this dog, he is about 1 I believe... I was told he was german shepherd and chow mix.. I am wondering if this is true or not. I know those breeds are frowned upon by landlords, but he is sooo mild mannered. Hoping maybe I can get away with saying either he is just a mutt, or maybe passing him off as something different... What does he look like to you guys??

I am not an expert guesser but I do have a breeds book with pictures that I 'consult' a lot. I don't see any German Shepherd at all nor chow but am wondering about Rottweiler as part of it's mix. I don't know if that would go over any better with the landlord though. Some breeds look more like they are 'meaner'--for lack of a better word--then they are. Many breeds get a bad rap just because of how they look--unfair but the way a lot of ignorant people see it.

Here is a link to pics of the Rottweiler and after you check that breed out--If you go to top of pages and click on All Breeds--you can check out the looks of any other breed you want--There are even mixed breeds shown too--done alphabetically and be sure to scroll all the way to bottom of page(s) as ads get in the way and are misleading and you think you are done---There are often more pages of pics of the breed at bottom of page to click on.

He doesn't look as though he would be any trouble to anyone. I do hope your landlord accepts him. Can you not say he is a mixed breed with no discernible traits of any particular breed? I suppose the trouble is nowadays there is so much deliberate cross breeding which often is done to promote the more aggressive/less social sides of the breeds people are suspicious but there must still be space for honest to goodness mutts or mongrels. With my old dog I can see odd traits from different breeds but not enough to say she is a beagle cross or whatever. To me she is a mongrel and she is perfect. I don't think you could untangle your dog's background without a DNA test and they are not 100% reliable even then.
