Im stuck between thinking she is an Alaskan husky & an American Eskimo...thoughts?

I really don't understand how someone can buy a puppy and not know what breed it is! Did he buy from a pet store? Here in the UK it is usual to buy a puppy from the breeder and see the mother and the rest of the litter. How old is she?

It is far too soon to know anything about her breed if you have nothing else to go on. Just as you can not tell from a picture of a toddler what he or she will look like when grown up.

Whether she stays small and cute or grows to be the size of a coffee table there is no reason why she should be anything other than sweet and lovely if you bring her up right. Big dogs can be as loving and bonded as tiny ones.

First to point out, there is no breed called Alaskan Husky. The term is used to describe a mixed breed bred as sled dogs. The other thing to note is that as a puppy, there is no real way to determine breeds unless they are purebred and even then it can be incorrect without documentation. If you want an idea of what the breed or breeds are, wait til the pup is about 9 to 10 months of age when the physical development is more apparent ie: head shape, body shape, coat etc. Based on this pups feet, it will not stay small but more inline to be a medium size dog. Best way to describe this is look at a baby pic of you and look at yourself in the mirror, do you look like the baby pic? This is the reason we wait til their are old enough so they start resembling actual breeds to get a better idea of what it may be by what we can see in other breeds. Cute pup though.

Well, the story behind the story is - we fell in love with the puppy of a friend of ours. We asked & asked so many times to the point that our friend went & got his little puppys sister (our new puppy) for my boyfriend to surprise me with. They actually recieved their puppy because someone was unable to take care of it , & when i asked what breed it was they also were unsure between the two i posted above.

And yes, i didnt mean that a bigger dog would literally not be just as sweet and loving as a mini however, i am a tiny little thing myself & prefer them to be mini... or toy .. or whatever other small size they call them.

question is still unanswered ...

I'm sorry - without a DNA test your question will have to remain unanswered! There really is no way to tell from looking at a photo of a puppy how it will be when it is grown. That's all there is to it. If it was important to have a small dog then you need to buy a dog from a responsible breeder who will show you the mother and the rest of the litter from a specific breed so that you know what you are getting.

Perhaps your dog doesn't have a particular breed. She could be a mixture of all sorts of breeds. If I understand you - your friend got a pup from someone who didn't want it yet he was able to get in touch with the "breeder" to get a litter mate. Surely he could have asked the breeder what sort of dog it was or could have seen the mother which would have given you some idea of what to expect.

But if your dog is well trained it doesn't matter what size you are. My husband and I had two Jack Russells and when our son was two and a half we adopted a Golden Retriever. My husband had always wanted a Golden. But our son immediately assumed that the dog was his - and so did the dog. We would go out walking the dogs and this dog which was as tall as my son's head would walk to heel on a loose leash for my son. She would walk to heel without a leash through a field full of distractions and her recall for him was 100%. It's not about physical power, it's about the training you give the dog and the bond you have with it.

well said, and agreed. *cheers* .

but i still want my baby to be a baby forever! lol

Also, our friend did ask & the response the person who previously had the little pup before him (for about 2 weeks) said that it was either american eskimo or alaskan husky. I guess i will just have to wait to i go to the vet & see what they say.

Any dog can be a lap dog if it is what you want and you allow it. My son and his Golden had their own armchair and even if someone else sat in it the dog would join them.

Just to note, Veterinarians are not authorities on dog breeds. Their specialty is animal medicine not the study of breeds and therefore like others, have no more clue based on age than anyone else, excluding vets who are breeders. As suggested, a DNA if you wish to get a close answer now would be an option or waiting til is matures which is the most common way to have an idea but again there is no such breed as Alaskan Husky which if the people they got this from before you got it told them such, then they either knew it was a mixed breed dog of some sort or are confused about the term Alaskan Husky.
