what mix is my pup?

i bought a pup from a breeder for my son for christmas... they told me he was a maltese/poodle mix... i've heard from several people that he looks like some type of terrier... he also sheds more than he is supposed to.. doesnt really matter what he is because my son is still in love with him, but just out of curiosity i'd like to know what everyone thinks... thanks

I am assuming you didn't see the parents?

I see one of the ears sticks up. This does not happen with the maltese or the poodle. I see a bit of Westie in the face.

My first thought would be terrier. No matter what they call themselves a decent breeder would not sell you a pup without showing you at least the mother and the rest of the litter.

The colouring looks like Jack Russell. Neither Maltese nor Poodle has markings. Poodles and Maltese have folded ears, as do Jack Russells but ears can do silly things when a pup is teething so it could be that they will both flop or both stand up or he will have one of each.

He is definitely a cute puppy but as for his breed - I suspect that the only way you will get an answer is through a DNA test.

thanks for the replies... i got to see the litter just not the parents. i too thought he might be a westie. when he was a bit younger both ears folded down to the left. it looked like he had 2 left ears... just recently they started sticking up... he was also mostly all white with his ears being a very light tan color.. now theres a dark tan stripe down his back... does anyone know how accurate dna tests are? thanks again

Sorry to say but your puppy is probably the product of a puppy mill. Without seeing the mother with the pups you could buy more or less anything. Whatever he is, he looks absolutely adorable and I would be proud to give him a home. Just hope you didn't pay over the odds for a specific "designer" mix because I very much doubt that is what you've got!

Can't help with the DNA question as I'm in the UK.

thanks for your feedback.. im sure we didnt get what we paid for so good thing we didnt pay much.. we're all happy with him and love him anyways so as long as he's healthy we're ok...
