Question Pugalier

Hi!
I'm planning to get a nest from my King Charles Spaniel and the Pug from a friend. We will take care of the puppy's together. Both dogs are healthy, but not tested by a vet. We know about the risks. My question is:

Should we get the nest, or not (concidering all the health issues of both breeds)

My King Charles has two tested parents, and they have got no issues at all. But my dog could have them from farther back his bloodline off coure...

I take it you mean you plan to breed them? Then I would definitely answer no. Leaving aside the potential health issues the pups could have there is no reason, other than money for creating cross bred pups and while the vast majority of rescue dogs are killed in shelters why add to the problem by creating puppies that have nothing to contribute to any bloodline or breed.

I hope you aren't planning on breeding more mutts when there are plenty in shelters. And no, a pugalier is not an AKC recognized dog breed. It is a mix between 2 breeds. (a mutt) Go you your local shelter and watch them put unwanted dogs to sleep and then ask why yourself why you feel you need to breed your dog.

It really gets me how so many people give out about cross breeding. When u breed two dogs(like a pug and cavalier) it in fact reduces health risks,it does not increase them.It is a known fact that pure breeds suffer more health issues than that of mixed breeds. Pure breeds do not live as long a life as mixed breeds. If people want to breed dogs then why the hatred towards it.Yes i really do hate that there are so many dogs in shelters, but that is not a right to say to people to stop breeding dogs. That is like sayin to all humans, how can you even think about having your own kids when there are so many homeless out their or in care.it just doesnt measure up in my opinion.

That is an interesting point of view. Have you any reliable research to prove your point? I am at a loss to understand how the breeding of two breeds with well known health problems causes the pups to be healthier. You breed a dog that is disposed to heart problems (such as a cav) and a dog disposed to breathing problems (such as a pug) and suddenly the bad genes disappear and only the healthy ones survive?

You are simply quoting urban myths that have no bearing on genetics. Responsible breeding practice requires only the best examples of a breed be used to reproduce. There will always be irresponsible breeders and accidental breedings but no one with the good a breed at heart would condone mixed breeding.

If you do have any evidence that cross breed dogs are healthier than responsibly bred dogs then please show us.
