Was told he was a Tan Min Pin
Silly me, I posted in the new to the block forum LOL
We were told he was a Tan Miniature pincher, mom was about 11 to 12 pounds and dad about 10, well, now that Dierks is 9 months old and a whopping 23 pounds, I am starting to question this LOL
We bought him off craigslist for $60, we researched the breed he was posted as, but really wanted a dog that would fit in our family.... to be honest I couldn't imagine Dierks with anyone else... he blends so well and just as spunky as us
I'm often asked what breed? I don't know what to say anymore. We got him at 5 1/2 weeks, tail already docked, we had no intentions of cropping his ears or any other cosmetic visits. He was too cute the way he came. He will be getting snipped soon though.
I'm curious. I feel like I don't even know my puppy anymore LOL

To note, Miniature Pinschers do not come in "tan". They come in Black & Tan, Blue & Tan, Chocolate & Tan and Fawn & Tan. What you have is a "Red".
For the record, the original Miniature Pinschers were actually larger than what is seen today. Granted not that large but that does not mean that there is no over 20lbs purebred Miniature Pinschers out there because I know for a fact there are.
He appears to be a Miniature Pinscher based on the pics. I have 2 14 month old boys that are between 14 & 15 inches and weight 15lbs. I bred them this size after several attempts and working at it for years to re-introduce the original terrier Miniature Pinscher. These boys carry all the original traits and have been ferreting on the farm since 9 weeks.
Do not be concerned about the white on the breast or neck area. This is a direct link to a color pattern found originally on this breed, Harlequin. As found in the Great Dane. Italian Greyhounds and smooth coated Dachshunds are the breed stock of the Miniature Pinscher and with this many of the colors have been genetically carried. IG's have come in Harlequin as well as Dapple ( as found in the Dachshund) in this case it is referred to as merle when the pattern is on a Miniature Pinscher.

Thank you Yogi for your kindness, I found your information very useful and even researched more on the color stag red and oh my, there were so many of my little pup
I do wonder with average weight being 12-13 pounds and his parents being of average weight, why oh why he is 23 pounds of pure muscle LOL
He has every trait of the min pin, and I do feel more confident when asked now to say he is a stag red miniature pincher I simply really got to wondering today when I heard someone comment on how much larger he is compared to her min pin. I also have to admit, I enjoy his cuteness with the uncropped ears, adds to his already spunky and mischievous personality

You have to remember size is not necessarily determined by the parents but by the grandparents and the lineage. There obviously were some large ones in the line further back. Also to remember, he is a Miniature Pin"s"cher....
The term is taken from the English word "to pinch" and is used to descriibe the biting action this breed uses when holding its prey. No, it does not translate to "terrier" in German like so many websites and books proclaim. In addition many books and websites will tell you this breed lives from 14 to 17 years, false....average lifespan of the Miniature Pinscher is 12 to 14.
