Default what breed is my dog please

Hello dog lovers,

I was hoping someone on here may be able to give me a clue on what breed/breeds my lovely dog is please?

I've uploaded some photos but they are pending approval at the moment.

Some additional info in case it helps.

His tail curls round at the top.

He is very, very friendly and is excellent around kids. He is not aggressive in the slightest. He is very dopey.

He's 7 years old (2011)

If you need to know anything else please ask.

Thanks in advance.

Smile Welcome to the Forum!

I see you supposedly posted 15 times but I can only find this one I was going to check to see what else you had said about your dog so I could try to guess---but a pic is really needed. How big--height from shoulder down and weight may help some. What type of coat? What color(s)? There are a lot of breeds with a curled tail. Hope your pic shows up but you may have to go through Photo Bucket as a glitch in this forum in uploading pics for quite a while now. 'Keep tuned'--Will be right back!

I am back--This is the instructions given now for posting pics:Download your pics to photobucket and click on the pic you want to embed in your post. Under that pic there is 4 codes to use to link your pic. Use the IMG code at the very bottom. left click on it. It automatically copies your pic. Then paste it on your post. hit enter. pic is posted.

Thank you for your reply.

I joined a couple of weeks ago and tried unsuccessfully to upload photos.

Then I gave it another go yesterday and they came up that they were pending approval.
This morning after reading your reply I followed your instructions and signed up with photobucket hoping to upload the photos that way but guess what...no such luck. The first time an error message came up saying only 4 links could be attached to a post so I removed the rest and left 4 then another error message came up saying I cannot post photos until I have contributed 50 posts......never mind.

Does this site always have problems or is it just me :-(

Thanks once again for all your help.

Also the 15 posts are every time I was trying to upload the photos yesterday, I was watching the amount go up as I was uploading.

I give up now.

Thanks anyway.

Sorry you are having problems. I just got a new computer and am having so many problems that I haven't even attempted to go through Photo Bucket yet--Have to get my computer guy here to fix things---So I don't know what to tell you as far as uploading thru Photo Bucket. It is working for quite a few members though, but now that I think about it---I am wondering if it does work for new members as all the pics being put in are long time members--Another glitch? Help LUNA!!? Maybe she can help you figure it out since she is the one who discovered how to make it work thru Photo Bucket.

Lol, Luna you are just too fast---I pasted the info you gave in the 1st post I sent this member--Check above.

Maybe there is a necessary 50 posts before this 'messed up' forum will allow posting of pics even through Photo Bucket!!?? If you check out all the people who have posted pics through Photo Bucket--I think all did have 50 posts in?

Thanks for your reply.

The photo I uploaded are still pending approval but when I tried to upload them again a different way it says I'm not allowed.

It's not an ideal way but I've made the album on photobucket public so anyone can view it. My username for the search box is katee1616
then undernearch it says 'are you looking for photobucket user katee1616

Thanks for looking :-)

Thanks Luna, I've tried that already and this is the error message shown

To be able to post links or images your post count must be 50 or greater. You currently have 17 posts.

I guess I don't understand how to find your pics--maybe because I am not signed up for photobucket yet?I was just in that site and could not find the 'page' you mentioned.

Hey great! I also thank you Cig!

My 1st guess is part Chinese Shar Pei and maybe a mix with Boxer or American Staffie or pitbull--(some bully dog mixture anyhow).

I am giving you a link to a site that will show pics and descriptions of these breeds. Be sure to scroll all the way down on the pages as ads get in the 'middle' and it looks like you are done with the page when you are not. Also note that there are more than 1 page of pics to clickon at bottom of pages. You will also note that you can find mixed breed pics on this site.---->
All Purebred & Hybrid Dogs in ABC Order

I would have mentioned Bullmastiff if your dog was bigger but who knows--maybe possible that your dog has the size of the other breed(s)---The face looks like it could have Bullmastiff.

How much does he weigh and height from shoulder down to floor!!??

In that last pic that Cig put in (just above)--Your dog does have the markings that can be found on a boxer-the white chest and the 3 white paws.

I don't think you mentioned your dog's name!? How did you find your dog?

Thank you so much Cigwyllt and Corky, much appreciated.

His name's Bruno :-)

When we bought him when he was 5 months old from an abusive alcoholic man who lived in the area and he was only too please to 'get rid' of this lovely dog. We were told he was a Bullmastiff X American pit.
Ever since we have had him he was always a scared, nervous dog. When he was younger he used to wet himself if he heard a loud scream.
He's always been very friendly and loves people and children.

We also had a SBT who is 1yr older than Bruno. They used get along great but our staff used to try and hump Bruno quite a lot. Then when Bruno turned 1yrs old all of sudden he decided he wasn't taking it any more and they had a fight so we split them up as it was too risky. When we took them to the vets after the fight the nurse told us Bruno was a japanese tosa inu.

I don't know much about breeds but I really would like to know what my lovely boy is.

If there's anything else you would like to know please don'y hesitate to ask.

Thanks again guys.

Just going on what your vet said---Here are pics of the Tosa Inu from that same site I gave you: Tosa Information and Pictures, Tosas

How much does he weigh?

Hey your vet may be right!! I just looked over all the pics in that link above and also the description fits too. Whether a purebred or not-? but must be pretty close to one if not one! And note the breeds that went into making this breed!!

Bruno is a good choice of names too I think, as far as looks go-- lol, even if his character may not fit, being as he is a gentle dog!

And thanks for 'rescuing' that great dog!!!

A lot info in the Tosa listing does describe my boy but not all....

He's got the dark ears and eyes. His tail is very thick at the root and gets thinner towards the top. He has quite a rough coat and white chest and feet just like the listing says.
If that's an English Bull Terrier next to him in the photo on that website you gave me, my Bruno is definitely not as tall as that Tosa. He is big just not that tall.
He doesnt have the black face though...would that rule him out? Sorry if that's a silly question.

He generally weighs about 60KGS. He will ill recently, we changed his food (not knowing it would cause problems obviously) and he keep being sick and lost loads of weight and after 1 week and the vets we were told he had WIND haha.

A lot of the info on there does sound like our dog though.

I can see Mastiff for sure..Tosa is a possibility but they're not to common here...I can see a possible mix of Mastiff and Char-Pei..The Char-Pei would also explain the curled tail.

He is prob. part Tosa Inu but you know as far as height---It mentions a big range in size for this breed as bred for lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight for Japanese wrestling. The face color--I don't know but if he is only part Tosa Inu -may have the face color of another breed he may have mixed in there. When you think about where you got him--I wonder if he is not a pure breed anyhow.

I am thinking 60 kgs is 120 pounds USA weight-wise?

I agree Ree that it prob. is rare here--I've never heard of them before--but Katee is in Canada if that makes a difference. I kind of wondered about the tail too although Bruno sounds like his tail is only curled some of the time and the Taso Inu tails look like they curve some. In that description site --it mentions the Mastiff as a breed used to 'create' the Taso Inu. Like you I thought of the Char Pei right off the bat---Maybe it is a Taso Inu/Char Pei mix. Hey I just realized these are both Chinese breeds--coincidence?

Hi guys,

Most people say he looks like a Mastiff x.

I've been reading more on the website you gave me Corky....Bruno has had 2 of the health problems common to Tosa inu's. The 'wind' problem I mentioned before and when he was younger he had problems with his hip and had a small op (he's all good now though).

Bruno has the same crinkles in his head too and also lots of excess skin around his neck. The vet told me that was a major bonus for when these dogs used to fight in the old days. Apparently dogs usually go for the neck but with this breed they have a very slim chance of getting hurt because of all the skin (if that makes sense). His neck measurement is 32 inches!

60 kgs is about 132lbs.

Honestly though my Bruno is most friendliest gentle giant you'll ever meet.
He shows no signs whatsoever of being a 'dangerous dog'. If you go to stroke him straight away he'll lie down with his legs up in the air waiting for a belly rub. I don't mind this at all, I think it's cute but he is a very dopey dog and has been his whole life lol. Does anyone else here have a dopey dog too?

I'll upload some more photos with different looks once I'm up to 50 posts lol.

Speak soon.
