Can Anyone Help Me Determine His Breed
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and to dog ownership in general. I was attacked by a dog as a child, so needless to say, I've never understood the term "man's best friend" and I never wanted anything to do with dogs after that happened. LOL!
I was in a relationship with a guy that claimed to love dogs, so I reluctantly welcomed one into our home. 2 years later, I find out that my now ex-boyfriend was abusing our dog and calling it "discipline". I don't believe you should ever hit a dog and I was torn apart when I found out that my new buddy was being hit and locked away in his crate for hours by the very person he looks to for love and comfort. I was disgusted and heartbroken.
I warned my boyfriend that if it didn't stop, he'd find himself looking for another place to live. Well, he didn't and now he's finding himself another place to live. I promised my dog that I would never let anyone hurt him again. He is like a child to me. He is the sweetest dog in the world and I love him so much! He is a part of my family.
Enough back story...I'm not familiar with dogs AT ALL, so I was wondering if anyone here could help me figure out what breed he is? I can't put pics up, but there are a few of them in my profile. Any guess would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry this is so long, but thanks in advance for your help!

I would have to guess there is some bully breed in there from the shape of the head and maybe yellow lab??
There are others here that may give you a better answer though.
I just love the expressions in his eyes. He is stunning. What is his name?
Enjoy your time here!

Thanks for your answers! What do you mean by "bully breed"? I'm sorry, I'm just not familiar with ther teminology just yet
His tail curls into a backwards "C" when he has to go. Otherwise, it's just straight. You can see a little of it in the first picture, if you scroll over.
Oh, his name is Lucky!
Thanks again!

I was thinking Husky and lab. His eye and ear set, and his coloring in the face looks like Husky mixes Ive seen. Hes beautiful. So glad you chose him over your ex boyfriend. Anyone who is mean to animals is not a nice person. Welcome to a great dog forum.

Well, Lucky definitely doesn't have the tail of a Basenji but the face reminds me of one--esp. the crease in the forehead, coloring is right and the body shape and size is too. What does he weigh and how tall is he--measure from shoulder down?? The tail and other 'details' can be from whatever other breed(s) he is mixed with. I am going to quote from my breeds book: 'The Basenji is a compact, muscular, medium-sized dog, with a distinctive trotting gait. Their loose, silky, short-haired coats come in combinations of white, tan, chestnut, brindle, and black. When alert, the forehead is creased with wrinkles, giving the dog a worried look.'--end of quotes. Does he have that gait? When alert does he look wrinkled (forehead) with a worried look?
Here is a link to pics and info on the Basenji: Basenji, Information and Pictures, Basenjis, Dog that does not bark
Be sure to scroll all the way down the page(s) as ads get in the middle and note that there are 2 more pages of pics to click on. (Bottom of 1st page). Make sure to read the 'print' at the beginning of the 1st page. And esp. note the health problems so you can be on the look out for symptoms. If this dog is part Basenji---and gets sick, etc--You will know what to look for 1st as being the problem. Esp. know the symptoms of kidney problems (check out the net for symptoms)--Kidney problems must be treated the moment the symptoms are noticed. Intestinal problems you might want to look up the symptoms too.
Anyway what do you think??
He is a great looking dog and I too am glad you kicked the boyfriend out before something tragic might of happened. It has happened to too many dogs--even a couple incidents posted in this forum a while back. So glad you had the courage to do the right thing. Lucky is a lucky dog to have you looking out for him! Keep us posted on your adventures with him!
