Default Anyone care to help me on the search for my dogs breeds??

Hey everyone, I've always wondered what mix my dog is. I have a feeling knowing what breeds he is will help me A LOT in answering some questions I have.

His name is Remy. I got him from a shelter about two years ago. I'm going to put pictures below, but he's mostly black, with a white and black belly, white socks on his front feet with black spots, the toes on his back feet are white as well, and he has a white tip on his tail. He's about 100lbs though he is a bit over weight. He's got a little extra skin all over his body, and wrinkles on his muzzle and forehead. His ears are triagular and almost lab-like. He also has fuzzy longer hair directly behind his ears. He also has random, long, rough hairs on his belly and his feet. The rough white hairs on his feet are textured strangely. If you look at one close up its like thick white then thin white, and if you feel it, its bumpy if that makes any sense. His tongue is mostly pink but it has a few black spots, and his gums are a mix of black and pink which i find very strange.

Behavior wise, he seems to be a hound. He LOVES smelling anything and everything. He's not a fan of playing fetch and pretty much ignores balls or stuffed animals. He loves chewing on bones though. He's very needy, and follows everyone around the house all day. He has seemed to form a strong bond with my mom, though he still loves my brother and I. He is incredibly territorial and protective, and has actually bitten three people (two while on walks, and one was a trespasser in my backyard). When people come over, he seems to have some crazy aggressive frenzy where he can't control himself, so we keep new guests in the living room (where Remy is not allowed) for about 10 minutes, and then introduce the guest to Remy, and he seems to be fine after that. And after he meets someone once, he is the most loveable dog ever and doesn't freak out when they come over. He also loves barking at people outside and he loves chasing squirrels and other rodents. He's also a big cuddler and he is very smart but he doesn't like to listen. I'm thinking he is more on the dominant side.

Anyway, sorry this post is so long.
Thanks for any insight you all may have!

Your dog is at least part sharpei. Is his tongue black? Maybe sharpei/lab mix?

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Smile Welcome to the Forum!

He must be a mix of quite a few breeds! If I had only seen that one front leg--I would be guessing Dalmation but doesn't fit the rest of him! A Great Dane might have that leg coloring too. I can see a little of what everyone else is saying but weight-wise , the Great Dane is the only one that fits unless there is some Bullmastiff in the mix. Like Luna said--He does have the looks of a Shar Pei but his tongue is not Shar Pei so the tongue is from a different breed. He kind of looks like part Black Lab too.

How much is he overweight--What do you think he should weigh? How tall is he from top of shoulder down? Can you show a side view of his tail?

Here are links to the breeds I mentioned:
Bullmastiff Pictures and Photos, 1 This breed has the wrinkles and weight. There are 5 pages of pics to click on at bottom of 1st page.

Shar-Pei Information and Pictures, Chinese Shar-Pei, Shar-Peis, Chinese Shar-Peis, Shar Pei 4-5 pages of pics

Great Dane Pictures and Photos, 1---5-6 pages of pics. Looks like the white leg with white markings could be from this breed.

Bully Bordeaux, Bullmastiff Dogue de Bordeaux Hybrid Dogs, Bully Bordeaux

And hey--this is a possibility mixed in too!---> Cane Corso Italiano Information and Pictures, Italian Mastiffs

Sharmatian, Sharmatians, Chinese Shar-Pei Dalmatian Hybrid

Texas Bones, the Shar-Pei puppy, 4

Sharpeis have coloured tongues but although it is a characteristic of Chows and Sharpeis it's not exclusive and other breeds can have them as well, including airedales, pitbulls and labs.

But his face is a sharpei face. I was just curious about the tongue. I don't see great dane there at all. maybe lab.
