So I would post in your county and the surrounding counties and contact all pounds and shelters to see if anyone has lost their dog.

Yes, I've been trying hard. The dog was found wandering a road behind my house about 9PM. A motorist that nearly hit her (according to him), captured her and took her door to door through two neighborhoods. My house was the last house so I offered to take her for the night and look for her owner in the morning (which I assumed was around my area).
First thing I did was take her to the nearby Vet Hospital to see if she was microchipped, which she is. The host company had her registered at our local Humane Shelter. The hospital called there and got a phone number (and her name - 'Flower'). They told me to leave her with them and they'd contact the owner to get her, and that was that...so I thought lol. A couple days later, the hospital called me back (I had to fill out a bunch of papers so they had my info), and they said no one is answering the owner's number and it doesn't allow voice-mail. They asked me to foster her for 30-days which I gladly am currently doing. The Humane Shelter has my info and know were the dog is. I've also been driving around looking for flyers and checking the local papers and even Craigslist. So far, they are no where to be found.
In the meantime she has a Doxie foster-sister and they love each other. Even our Siamese and Tortie cats have welcomed her. Considering all our animals are rescue animals that lived outside, I'm surprised they're all being so gracious with each other. Not one once of aggression from any of the four animals. The hard part is maintaining my wife and six kids' expectations. They all fell in love with her and I'm constantly reminding them that we are 'watching' her for the owners.
The hospital tell me that by me agreeing to foster her for 30-days, after the 30-days is up, I'm responsible for her and essentially the new owner. Of course, the kids marked it on the calendar.
She is as sweet as she looks. Very happy, playful and feisty. She loves burrowing under blankets and oddly, doesn't like dog-treats (to the delight of the Doxie).
I'm hoping her owners surface, but if they don't, she'll have found herself a very big and loving family.
