The Bestest
When I first got my dog I had the worst information in the world about rottweilers....Now that I know how to get experiance and have raised and trained two wonderful girls, I am on my way to falling so far in love with the breed I may not come up for air. One day I will own a male but right now I take pride and satisfaction from My Girls.
The fallacies and wrong information about rotts could fill a dictionary and I hope to help dispell the opinions of the general public with my two ambassadors of friendliness by taking them everywhere and introducing them to everyone who shows an interest.
Tough, smart, ingenious, sometimes intmidating- yes Mean & stupid- no

I never actually owned a Rottweiler but I believe it to be true that most of their behavior depends on their owner. I had a friend who had a Rottweiler. She (my friend) was a nice person, but she, in my opinion, did not give her dog the chance to "get to know" other people.
Everytime someone would come into her house, she would lock her dog into a cage. The dog would sit there and bark, growl and snap at any new person that came in. I'm not trying to tell people how to raise their dogs, but I do think they should introduce them at an early age to new people to get them use to them.

I used to live in a bad area and there was this women who had to many kids and couldnt cope so I used to look after her baby and she had a rottweiler with 3 really young kids.
She really mistreated that dog I felt so sorry for him he would be locked in the garden all day, and were he hadnt been introduced to other dogs & other humans properly he used to bark & scare the living daylights out of me. She used to hit him to, I know deep down that if he was with a capable owner I dont think he would of been like that. And reporting her to the rspca wasnt a option unless I wanted the living daylights kicked out of me, Felt so sorry for him!

Stupid people just should not be allowed to own dogs.
No matter what breed.

I totally agree, she coudlnt handle her kids so why get a dog?
Its just cruel and not fair on the poor animal, I think she got a rott, just to make her look 'hard' sort of thing! Pathetic.

I have to Rottweiler's and I love these dogs. I also have two small children and the dogs are great with them. I think the dogs behavior really depends on how the owner treats the dog. When I brought the baby home from the hospital we brought the blanket inside first so the dogs could sniff it. I dont know if that really works, but thats what I have always been told to do. I have a male and female.

I have never owned a Rottweiler. I grew up in a house that didn't allow it & I haven't had the chance to get one since I've been married. I truly do believe that it depends on the owner. I have seen both kinds of Rottweilers, the ones in good hands & the ones in bad hands. I didn't like the ones that were in bad hands, but the other ones were some of the sweetest dogs I have ever met (besides my own dogs, of course ;-) LOL).

My dad used to have a Rottweiler called Alfie and he was one of the softest dogs that I knew. He was well trained and respected and 11 stone of dog! I remember him leaning against my leg and falling asleep on several occasions. I could not move because of the weight!
It's upsetting that the dogs get such a bad press, as in the right hands, they are lovely dogs.

It's a shame that you have had such a bad experience. My dad was a good trainer of dogs as he had lived on a farm in his younger days.
A dog as powerful as a Rottweiler certainly needs the right care and attention and a strong owner. I have fond memories of Alfie and his passion for potato crisps!

I love rotties. They are in fact one of my favorite breeds.I never met one that was mean to me,the same goes for pitbulls.I have never met one that showed aggressive behaviour. There is a guy here with one that is so well trained,he rides his bike and the rottie runs beside him off leash...I don't nessicarily agree with ANY dog off leash, but this guy and his dog pass my house everyday and the dog ignores everyone while he is running alongside the bike.

Our family was given a rottweiler from some friends when I was 14. She was a total lover and protector from day one. Mollie was trained on german commands(before we got her) and I still remember the looks we would get when speaking to her. Everytime we would come home from going anywhere she would be waiting for us and be bouncing all over the place because she was so excited. She would follow my mother EVERYWHERE! The woman couldn't even go to the restroom by herself, LOL!
After I grew up and had children, Mollie adored them! We think she used to think they were her puppies because we would lay them on a blanket on the floor and she would plop down beside them and stay there as long as they were. Also, the only people who could get near them without a nasty look and a low growl were my mother and I.
We lost Mollie 2 months ago, but even until the end she was protecting my kids. Such a sweet girl.
