Default I love my pom babies!

I currently have four poms: 1 orange sable male, 1 orange female, 1 beaver parti male and 1 blue merle female. They are fantastic little watchdogs and love to be on your lap. My orange female is going to have puppies in the next 2-3 weeks...I'll want to keep them all, of course! :P

Default New pups....

When the vet did the ultrasound, they definitely saw two puppies, but said that there could be more. I won't find out until this Friday when they will do another ultrasound on her.

She normally weighs between 5.5 and 6 lbs., but when they weighed her at the vet last week, she weighed 8.8 lbs. She is completely round!

You can see pics of what my two poms looked like as puppies by going to the following web site. It hasn't been updated for about two years, so not even all my dogs are on there. http://users.adelphia.net/~klishis/doggies.htm

I'll have to put an update on when she has the new pups!

They are cute but When I clicked the link and saw Huskies I was thrown back--*LOL* Um, those don't look like poms to me!....Then I scrolled down and saw the little guys that looked like teddy bears--Very CUTE!....I liked the bottom picture of the huskies (the one where the one dog is looking out from under the other's hind legs)---It looks like a crazy doggie contortionist trick. Are they your's too?

Yes, they are all mine, which brings my grand total to 6 dogs. Unfortunately, the male malamute (Cyrus) at the top of the page had to be put down. He had a lot of problems: his hips, thyroid issues, etc. We only had him for about 6 years.

The huskies are both rescue dogs, the black one (Holly) from a breeder who no longer wanted her dogs and the red one (Sasha) was a product of a divorce and neither person wanted her anymore. They are both really nice dogs. That goofy picture of them on top of each other was actually taken from the floor up - you would not believe how many people see that picture each day and wonder how I got my dog to do that. So many people think it is one dog. I wonder if they are all crazy.

The website hasn't been updated forever, so my other two poms are not on there.

*hugs you for taking on rescue dogs*. Someday I will look into rescue dogs myself.

I can easily fall in love with dogs that come into where I work, but the ones I am most partial to are the oldest ones who don't get sold right away that I've put most of my energies into.

I think between huskies and pomeranians --wow---you must keep the grooming tools moving!

Hi everyone! I'm new and I'm looking for some advice. I am planning on getting a toy dog but I'm not sure what breed to choose. As I am a teacher I get lots of holidays and can travel quickly to and from work. I also have previous experience with animals-raising two cats and a horse! A friend of mine took me to see her Pom, who I immediatly feel in love with and so I've been leaning toward the breed ever since. I adore huskies but it would be cruel to keep one3 in a city and Poms are like a mini version! However, some people I've met really seem to hate them! I know that without firm training they can be nippy, but as I don't have kids I have a lot of time to devote to training. Any advice?

advice? I work for a pet shop obviously and we have a couple of adorable pomeranians and everyone loves to hold them because they are SOOO stinking cute. Sometimes I look at the family and decide if the family looks suitable to own such a dog. I do not feel that poms are really good to be owned by a family with small rough children. If I don't feel it is right I usually persuade the family to look at a different type of puppy but in the end it is up to them to decide. I think poms are great for older people. They are very loyal to their owners even are very protective of them . They usually don't like strangers....and if you don't like combing the fur forget it. They can get matted pretty bad. Poms are in the spitz family and nothing like huskies. I think you would have an easier time with a pom than a husky so I agree if you live in the city a pom would be better. Also I think small dogs are more portable. Try taking a husky in a grocery store!---Also check out other dogs within the spitz family like a keeshond, schipperke and the American eskimo (found this: http://www.heartbandits.com/ ). I like small dogs too, but I think I prefer the hypoallergenic breeds (ones with hair rather than fur) like mini schnauzers, bichons, maltese, yorkies, mini poodles etc.

Default Poms

I would not suggest buying a puppy in a pet store, as you cannot see the parents (who might not even be a good example of the breed). I always feel bad for the animals in pet stores...having to be confined to such a small area seems so cruel. Some breeders are shady too - especially those that ask about payment before they would even ask you about what type of home that you can provide for the dogs. Make sure to get references for any person that you decide to purchase a puppy from.

At one of our local pet stores (where I sometimes purchase treats), a former employee told me that an 18-wheeler will pull up to their store and the manager will select the puppies they want. Scary thought.

Also, poms do tend to have a high maintenance coat, but if you schedule regular grooming and do regular brushing yourself, it is not a nightmare. If you don't have time to do these things, you will undoubtedly end up with matting.
