Default Another leash question!!!!! This is bad :(

I was just taking Spike out for a walk to do his bathroom thing, and he saw another dog. This time, it was not the dog collar to break, but his leash!! Now I have no way of taking him out to bathroom until I can get him a new leash after work tomorrow.

It is(was) a sturdy chain-link leash, has anyone ever had this happen and have any suggestions for a better one ? This one was expensive at PetSMART. I'm afraid of spending more on a dog leash and having this happen again.

Luckily, he was able to be held and dragged back into the apartment before a fight could break out. =/

It's very difficult being sure that you are buying good quality items. I've never had a collar or leash break on my staffies, but my dog at the moment which is a big, boxer type cross, has bust both a good quality caller and a couple of leashes.

I tend not to have chain leashes anyway because you cannot wrap them around your hand to regain control of the dog if you need to (not without getting broken fingers) You could try attending a breed specific show and buying from there if you get chance.

The real problem of course, is the one that I suffer from, your dog shouldn't actually be pulling in this manner to start with.

Going to training classes could be an option for you. Not available to me I'm afraid because we live in the middle of nowhere, but I know that my dog isn't aggressive, just a bit giddy.

Well it just seems like maybe it isn't an issue of the most expensive item being the best quality.

I actually ended up going to the local farming-type store and getting horse stuff to put together something that I'm hoping will not come apart anytime soon. At this point, I just can't chance losing him and having him get into a dog fight or get hit by a car. =/ I think I will be doing the same with his dog collar really soon as well.
I am very happy to say, so far so good.
Thanks for the reply, Dopey!

I haven't had any leashes break on the dogs that I have now, but a couple dogs that I had before used to always break chain leashes. I only buy leather or nylon leashes. I've never had any problems with those. I've heard that chain leashes are bad anyway.

Yep I too hope you find a stronger leash. If you like you could get a chain instead of the cloth type. This would be much stronger than the cloth type one.
