Is he a puppy? This is fairly common in pups but also occurs in some adult dogs. Trying to keep his bladder empty might aid you somewhat because he will have less urine to release but it won't solve the problem. The best thing to do it try to modify the situations that cause him to urinate in excitement or fear. Are there specific situations that this occurs...such as at greetings?

I think more exercise should help...if he is worn out and has less energy, it should help him calm down...it definately wouldn't hurt at all.

It is called submissive urination. Do not scold, calmly clean it up, and start confidence building exercises. It would help that for the excited urine problem, to have everyone ignore the dog until it calms and approaches what made it excited in the first place. The scared urine thing is harder to stop, just praise when you see improvement, consistently, and again, calmly clean the rest up, with no anger or harsh movements. My JRT is now 5 yrs. and she did the excited thing until she was almost 2.
Hope this helps alittle.

One of my Yorkies did that. My vet called it involuntary urination. He told us to do several things. He said not to look at her or talk to her when we first got home. He said to wait until things settled down, until after the excitement of us coming home was over. It was hard, we were actually ignoring her while the other dogs were all over us. We never looked at her or talked to her, we simply walked to the back door. We always take her outside to potty from the back door. Once we were outside we would then lean down and pet her and talk to her. Believe it or not, it works. Within a short time it had almost stopped completely. Once or twice company came over and didn't know the rules and would talk to her and woops...But after awhile that even stopped. We have had no problems with that since. Nothing else we tried worked. I hope it works for you.

My dog used to do that when she was a little puppy until about 6 months old. She would do it anywhere she was standing as soon as she would get excited.

There was nothing she (or we) could do to stop it. She has since stopped doing it. I just chalked it up to being overly excited, the vet found nothing wrong with her either.
