Default Can you spoil a dog?

I have an 8 week old chihuahua puppy (male) and he is soooo adorable. I love him to death. We bonded the first day we met. Anyways, i have two questiions:

Can you spoil a puppy/dog?

When i first got Odin, i could not get him to stay or sleep by himself. The first day i got him and the first night, I held him constantly like a baby. He didnt want me to put him down, or otherwise he'd whine. So that night, he kept whining so i put him in the bed with me, and every night since, hes slept right beside me. And during the day, i have to hold him and pack him around. So i got an old arm sling that my hubby had used and i put in on and put him in it and hes as happy as can be. He hates to be alone. Will this subside in time, or have i just got him spoilt? I didnt know if you could spoil a dog. But it seems like he is very spoilt.

Other questiion is this. Everytime i let Odin out to potty, it sounds like he gets the hiccups. Can dogs get hiccups? IF not, what is it. I mean it looks and sounds like hes hiccuping? Why is he getting them soo often??

Any other advice or suggestions are very much welcome.

Certainly, I think a dog can be spoiled. I know that my dog is for sure! Your dog sounds a lot like my lab. She is attached to me at the hip, lol. I think she just loves her human, though. It's subsiding a little bit since she is getting older (she is almost a year now), but I'm not sure to what extent. I love her attention though.

You definitly can spoil a dog, we just got our dog about a week ago, he is 10 months old and im fairly cirtain his last owners had him spoild when ever my self or my boyfriend goes to work he whines and whines and he HATES being left alone, even if i go to the washroom he whines out side the door. he wont stay out longer then 10 min unless someone is with him. we are trying to get him out of this whining habbit, by ignoring him when he whines, its so hard though because i love him to peices and hate seeing him whine, but i know he will be even more spoild if we give in. sleeping with you in bed and being by your side is somthing your dog is used to, from what i have seen in other dogs and people i'd say he'll keep doing it when he's older just because that's what he is used to. its so hard to be firm with dogs when u love them so much but sometimes that's what you got to do!

Yes, dogs can and do get hiccups. She may be getting them because, well she gets nervous, being on her own four paws. After all you lug her around except when she has to "go". Start letting her be a dog. No more babying. Yes, have cuddle time, but when you want to, not when the dog wants to. Make the rules, and stick to them, and soon, the hiccups, will subside, and your dog will trot along with you, not in your arms all the time.
