afraid of tile flooring
My 11 month old puppy, Joey, is afraid of tile flooring. He won't go on it no matter what. I've tried everything from biscuits to steak to the cat to try to get him to come in my kitchen. It's not just my kitchen either, he refused to go past the carpet and into the store at petco today because he was afraid. I had to put him in a cart and push him around. He's not a small dog either, he's a rottweiler/lab mix and weighs about 70 pounds. He wouldn't even eat the dog treat sample because he was so scared. He must assiciate something bad with tile because he absoloutely refuses to set one paw on it. I adopted him from PAWS when he was 6 months old and I love him so much but I'm not sure what to do. Should I stay away from tile and let him be or what? I appriciate any help I can get, thanks everyone!

Do you keep his nails trimmed short? If not, he may be spooked by the sound of his nails on the tile flooring. Other than that, I don't have any ideas why he would be scared of tile floors.

I had a couple dogs like that. They were scared because it felt different & they slid on it a couple times because they didn't quite know how to walk on it. Just let him take it a little at a time. He'll get used to it. The dogs I have now aren't even bothered by it because they've been around it their whole life. My other dogs weren't. Just give him some time...but don't push him in the cart...that will only encourage him to be scared.

Our dogs were like this too at first, maybe for about the first couple of days. I'm not really sure why. They got used to it rather fast though.
I think with some time your dog will get over his fear too. I agree with the other poster about his nails making noise on the floor - that could be another cause.

I think it might be because my dad scolded him once for coming into the kitchen while he was making dinner. I have told my dad not to do that and he stopped but Joey still seems afraid.

Maybe try coaxing him into the kitchen with treats. That might work.

When Rex was a pup, he slipped on our kitchen floor, and did not want to walk on it at all. So, I put treats in my pockets, grabbed his favorite chew toys and lay down completely on the floor with out a word or look at the pup. Soon, Baby had to come and investigate, and of course that made Rex want to. I just lay there saying find the treat, and want to play? Soon he forgot he was on the floor and we had a grand play session, problem solved, and now he runs and slides I think on purpose!
