Default Do dogs grieve

My question is - do you think dogs grieve the loss of another pet/human?

I believe they do. I have seen it personally with my dogs and family members dogs all throughout my life.

Yes I believe that dogs grieve. They after all, are a social animal at least within their own pack. Which includes their humans too!

I definitly agree dogs to greive/can be depressed

When one of my nanny's dog's died the other dog was lost for like 2 weeks maybe 3, you could tell she was sad, and most likly a bit depressed. Same as when my grampy died, the dog was really depressed for a few weeks...Dogs can definitly sence when things are not right, or somthing has happend.

Yes, dogs can grieve... We had 2 puppies from the same litter a couple years ago, brothers. One got sick and died, I can't remember from what though, and the other one moped around and whined for 2-3 weeks. He wasn't interested in playing with his toys or my oldest daughter. He gradually made his way back to normal though, but he wasn't completely back to normal even 3 months later. Its almost like he'd be playing along with my daughter, then he'd go to chase his brother or whatever, and he'd remember that his brother was gone. It was so heartbreaking to watch some days.

Yes, I think dogs can grieve or be depressed. I've seen my dogs be depressed if I go on vacation & don't take them with me. I've also seen dogs grieve over another dog or their owner/family members.

Dogs definately grieve for humans and other pets (even cats). Dogs are social pack animals and they miss their playmates animal and human. The grieving process can take a few weeks to a few months. Give him lots of attention. Sometimes bringing in a new friend will help but not always. All animals I believe grieve the loss of someone they were close to. I had a cat once who after losing her longtime kitty friend kept throwing up blood she was so stressed out. After some stomach settling medication and a lot of attention she came out of it and enjoyed becoming the queen of the house. She no longer grieves and I don't think would tolerate another cat coming in. They get over it like humans do. Just give some time and lots of love.
