Default Getting in the trash - help!

How do you stop your dogs from tearing into your trash! My dogs have this aweful habit of doing it whether it is still in the house in the garbage can or outside. This is the only habit I can't seem to get them to shake.

Would it be possible to just keep the garbage somewhere else that is out of their reach?
If not, you could try setting up booby-traps or something like the snappy trainer. It looks like a mouse trap, you can place on the garbage cans and it works to startle the dog if they try to get into the can.

My dog gets into the garbage sometimes, when he's left alone, i think he does it as revenge, but anyways, our garbage can is one with the foot thing that opens it, when we go out we turn it around so the front is agains the wall ( its kinda in a corner too) and its worked for us, He also gets in to the bathroom garbage witch is just gross so we just keep the bathroom door shut most of the time, if there is anything in there. if we see him sniffing at the garbage can we just call his name and steer him in another direction.

Watch your dog like a hawk and don't let him have the chance to even sniff. We used the Leave it command, and put the garbage up on the counter if we couldn't watch him, like when we went to shower. Now I can leave any thing out, meat on the counter, and he doesn't even lift his head for a good sniff. That is the Alpha's so he leaves it.
