Just curious if anyone else has a dog who love to chew on ice. My little boy, Ranger, just loves ice cubes! He can be upstairs asleep, but come thundering down in a heartbeat if he hears the freezer door open! He has even picked an ice cube over a hot dog when we offered him the option! (I know, I know, hot dogs are not good for them, but at least they're kosher )

Other dog people I've told about this think it is the strangest thing. Of course, he is pretty quirky, so perhaps it's just par for the course with him.

About 6 yrs ago, when our JRT was spayed, she needed to have her baby fangs removed as the adult ones were growing in crooked right behind them. Anyway, the vet said to give her ice cubes to help relieve any pain. She now loves them. Our 21 mo. GSD learned by association, and barrels to the fridge when we open it. They both love it.

When it snowed here last January, Skippy really got into eating snow but I have never given him an ice cube maybe I will try that one.............mmmmm maybe after my christmas party. Wouldn't want him mugging the guests for the ice in their drinks

My Dog LOVES the snow, if he knows its snowing out sidehe wont leave us alone untill we let him out and then he eats the snow too., and the snow we bring in on our boots!, i might try giving him an ice cube, maybe it could be fun in the summer time to have some ice with a treat inside (somekind that wont soak up water!)

I have a Australian shepard/chow mix who also loves ice cubes, and will sit right next to the freezer until we've finished with getting ice. He will snatch up the ice cubes and happily eat them. I believe this started when he was a puppy (now 1.5 yrs old), he would get very hot, born in July 2005, and I would hold him on my lap and rup ice cubes on his mouth to cool him off. I think he learned to just love them, and was comforted by them.

Dogs with a strong appetitte drive like labs will usually eat ice. My little girl and another lab I knew love ice. It is a pretty common thing.
