Default Help on a Saint Bernard my wife and I are looking at?

I would like you get some peoples opinion on this, my wife and I have two dogs right now and in our area you can have up to 3 dogs so we are looking at a Saint Bernard which is being held at the animal rescue place in our area, they hold pets for 5 days and then you can adopt them or they put them to sleep if there is no room. I am really unhappy with the guy working at this place because he was attacked about a year ago from a larger breed dog and I can tell he really does not like this Saint Bernard. My wife went by there yesterday while I was at work and said he was really friendly and walked all over the place with him and also played in this fenced area with him. We currently have two dogs, a Basset Hound named Chloe and Bear who is part Alaskan Malamute and Great Dane.
This guy who works there said he will try a temperament test on her later, so my wife filled out all the paperwork to get things going and they would know someone is interested and not put him to sleep, so after work I went by to visit him and the worker was actually testing her in this fenced area and seeing if he's aggressive and how his temper is, I did not see this dog growl or show any act of being mean but this guy freaked out and runs out of the yard and says” I do not trust this dog at all”! I am thinking oh my GAWD a little dramatic aren't we, so even his fellow co-worker goes what's wrong with you, aren't you a little over cautious, and this guy looks real serious and goes " you have to be around these dogs” I'm thinking to myself what a jerk, this guy is going to sentence this dog to death because he was attacked a few months back by a large dog and does not trust any of them. I said why don't you trust him, he goes well his tail was not wagging and that tail should be going back and fourth when I was petting him. He then shows me this scar on his neck from a big dog attacking him and I said so you don't think this dog would work out for me then? He said NO I cannot recommend this dog to anyone.
I would just like to get some people's opinion on this board about this, I really don't know what to do, I think this guy should find another profession for sure because he's going to talk bad about any large breed they get in, the other people working there were saying how nice this Saint Bernard was and friendly and this guy was just scared to death of him. I just hate seeing him put down and if I don't do something in the next day he will be. I never had a Saint Bernard so would love to hear from anyone who had them and how they are around other dogs? Sorry for the long e-mail but this gentleman at the animal control place just really made me mad. Thank you.
