Dog Crouches While Playing . . .
My son has a new dog - she is a 4 1/2 month old Boxer mix, and he has had her for about 2 months. We think she is probably mixed with a little Pit Bull and, maybe, a little beagle. She is a nice dog, and coming along well, but she has a behavior that I have not seen in dogs, before. While she plays with our Border Collie, the Boxer mix crouches about halfway to the ground and parallel to it, and appears to be in a "staulking" position. She does not do anything aggressive, rather she will walk slowly across the ground in this position, head level with her back, appearing somewhat like a Tiger or cat about to pounce on its prey. She and the other dog will then, just play, bounce around, and chase one another. The Border Collie is fast, the Boxer/Pit/Beagle? is cute, but cunning in that she does not waste time following the quicker dog in the long lines of the chase, but waits to cut her off at shorter spots in the game. She plans this, just as the Border Collie runs just fast enough not to entirely loose the "chaser", checking over her shoulder occasionally, to see if the speed is too fast or slow. I have never seen dogs do this before. Has anyone else seen dogs do this? She looks like a cat.
