Default Bad Partner! :-)

I was just reading a thread about training pups to stay off the furniture. Well this is a slightly different version I'm happy for my boy to get on the couches/my bed when invited but if asked to remove himself I expect him to get on his bed, which has never been a problem till my partner has moved in with us(8 months ago) Now if I ask him to get off the bed/couch he goes to Shaun's side or the couch that he is sitting on. Well Shaun lets him get on how do you deal with your partners to get more firm with your pooches! In Shaun's defense he is good some of the time but other times is a bad influence and I have noticed recently if I discipline Chip he goes straight to Shaun for sympathy! Any tips apart from a stick to beat the boyfriend with hehe

A rolled up newspaper!!

On the BF!!

You will have to ask him not to encourage and or pet him when he goes to him for sympathy, until the dog is doing good, and is released from whatever command you gave it.
Good Luck training BFs is harder than dogtraining!!

exactly!! training BF's or husbands is very difficult!! But it must be done! Make sure like Poohbear said, that your BF ignoes the dog when he goes to him or sympathy.

That is why Rex does his foot stompin' thing to only us girls. (Dog Chat thread) My man, refuses to play with him, he thinks that he will be more, I don't know, MEAN? That won't happen, Rex is very social, and my man, just wants a protector. If you have just one in the house that follows the rules, it makes it so difficult to enforce said rules!!

Boys are frustrating the ironic thing after placing this thread I went home and had to tell Shaun off for being a big softy. I told Chip to get outside for his dinner and he went straight to Shaun so I repeated the order and well blow me down the man had the cheek to pat the dog so I threw a fit and threw them both outside hehe. Don't think either will be trying the trick any time soon. I just worry about if and when we have kids it'll be 10 times worse so if I enforce it now with the dog and kitten(who climbs up people cause the boys think it's funny) maybe we'll be on the right track.

P.S. I'm glad other people have men trouble with their pups :-P

My problem is a bit different, i support doug's choice not to let kip on the bed, I'm picky and i don't want dog hair where i sleep. Doug plays with kip and he's good to him but it just feels like he thinks he knows best. Which angers me because he's questioning my judgement. We have two kids still home and he is really hard on my son who just turned 12. He thinks the kids are talking back to him when their simply replying. Men are strange i don't know. I think i'd rather have a softy for a husband than a hard nose one.
Any suggestions?

My favorite line is "So we agree to disagree!" Then, I don't discuss it anymore until we are both calm and can at least listen to each other!

Another of my favorite lines is " I am always right, unless I am wrong!"

And I have trained my Man well, he will be the first to tell you, "All men are pigs." But dang it, I know he doesn't mean it!!!

Default Oh dear

Well it is important that you, just like with kids, back each other up otherwise the dog will split you. A friend of mine tried this with 2 dogs at the same time. The dogs took great pride in being their own masters but it did work after about 2 weeks. Good luck
