Our whole neighborhood would howl when there was a siren going off somewhere, we humans could hardly hear it but it would set all the dogs off that is for sure!

Did you hear any types of sirens maybe?Dogs will all start howling if they hear sirens sometimes, and even higher pitched noises.

Sirens from fire trucks usually start it in my neighborhood.

Not sure where you live, but the coyotes out here will set my girls to howling big time! I don't always hear the coyotes unless I step outside but the girls can hear them from indoors. Sirens also set them to howling.

A siren...any kind of siren will usually send all the neighborhood dogs into a tizzy.

I think they are communicating to each other.I live in the country and usually when our dogs howl is because of a Wolf or Coyote howling; and sometimes the neighbor dogs just like to howl so our dogs will howl back. It is kinda neat watching the dogs react to the howling.

Some dogs do howl, but if your dog is doing it because of other dogs, it's just their way of communicating. There's nothing wrong.
