We just adopted a 9 month old male Yorkie. He is a doll. He had been neglected in his past. His hair was all matted, he was hungry, etc. He also has had an obvious broken rib that has healed but still has a misplaced bone on one side. Thus there is suspected abuse as well. He is perfect though, a real sweetheart.

BUT My question is....He drinks soooo much water. We are working on potty training, so we dont leave his water down for him continueously,but we put it down at least once an hour before we let him outside. Every time we put it down he drinks for about 5 min. And he is also ofcourse peeing it out. I am a little worried about a UTI as he pees several diff spots in a row when he does pee in the house.

I know there are MANY health issues that this could be, but I am wondering that if a dog has been deprived of the things he needs such as water...could that make him act this way as well? and if so how long could that continue?

Any suggestions???? I do plan on seeing a vet in the NEAR future also. Thanks for any and all responses.

I think your new buddy needs to see a vet ASAP. Call around and find one that sees lots of little dogs, because they are very different.
I wonder how much water is he drinking? My little guy drinks about 32oz of water, more when its hot or hes really active.

Congraulations in rescuing a dog in need, he will need more work, but he will also show so much more love.
