 Recently adopted abused dog
I recently adopted (two weeks ago) a Chihuahua/Fox Terrier/Rat Terrier mix from an animal rescue organization. She is a sweet little dog, but it was believed that she was extensively abused by her previous owner(s).
She is very affectionate, but oftentimes will hide or shake if scared. I am trying to gain her trust so she is comfortable with certain things like picking her up, but am at a loss at this point. When trying to pick her up, examine her teeth, clip her nails, bathe her, etc. she nips or tries to bite and runs off. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to make her more comfortable with me and these things?
