Schnauzerpup is on a distinguished road
Unhappy Rescued dog sits and will not move

I am fostering a 6 year old schnauzer who is a puppy mill rescue. She is making good progress on socialization, she will take treats from hand, she has learned stairs and doorways pretty well ...HOWEVER... I have a real problem with the leash. She will set or lay down and simply refuse to move. No amount of coaxing, treats, etc will get her to move when this happens. I have waited as long as 15 minutes and she simply will not move. I have tried varying leash pressure to no avail. I have tried both a halter and a collar. It happens at least once per outside session. When it does I eventually have to just pick her up and bring her back inside. I am out of ideas. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I have two mini schnauzers who can be quite stubborn. My newest is a rescue also and I am slowly learning what works and what doesn't. My guess is that maybe something happened with the leash for your rescue to act this way. Perhaps try keeping the leash near her inside when you are playing or petting her so that she knows that the leash is ok. Eventually work up to putting the leash on her inside while asking her if she's ready to go outside. This is just my guess.
