Default Is my husband crazy?

Or am I? Lol
I'm brand new to dog life...when I was younger we had a dog, but didn't get him as a puppy and I really don't remember much about having him. My husband HAS had dogs (from pup) before...

We got a 3 month old Hound this past weekend. She seems to be Very smart and Very sweet - goes potty outside just fine, etc.

My question is: She had poo'd outside in our yard a couple times and I kept asking my husband to pick it up. I think poo just sitting in a yard is nasty...it smells, it'll attract other animals, and people/animals can step in it. He didn't pick it up and so I finally asked him if he was going to and he said that he didn't want to...he wanted to leave it there so, "she learns that this is her yard." Is this normal???

It makes no sense to me. She knows the house is hers...but doesn't potty in the house. She knows her crate and bed are hers...but doesn't potty in there. If we pick the poo up (which I did) the "scent" will still be there, plus the scent from her pee...so it's not like she won't know she was there. I think it's ridiculous... BUT, as I said, I've never Really had a dog before, so I may be clueless. Any ideas??

No, I don't think that eiter of you are nuts. My lab likes to smell his prior business before he goes. (I think that's a little crazy.) When I clean up the yard, he takes ALOT longer to go potty for a couple of days until there are a few piles out there for him to sniff. That is his pattern. I understand where both of you are coming from. I clean the yard up because it begins to smell, especially in the high humidity times. My lab knows that he is supposed to do his business outside, in a certain part of the yard and if he goes potty where he is not supposed to, I make sure to clean it up right away and wash the yard down with water so that the smell doesn't linger and he doesn't think that it's ok to go there. In my opinion, do what is necessary for the pup to go potty outside and for you to be able to use your yard. If you're happy, your pup is happy! Hope this helps.

This is going to be too irizistable not to say anything:mrgreen:
Your husband is having you on, very cleaverly though i must say. There is an element of truth in what he is saying, but it is obvious that your dog does not need this help. He just doesnt want to pick it up and put you in the situation that you do it instead.
Who mows the lawn? If hubby is the one id leave it. He will quickly learn to clean up after the dog too.
