Boyfriend and I are living together..my Dog's behavior is strange
Hello everyone!
This is my first time on this site. I hope you can help me with a problem.
I have a 5 yo dog named sollie (solomon). My nephew rescued him...he was tied up and abondoned at a McDonalds in Chicago (at 10 weeks old) he has been with me every since. I have no children so I am very protective of my dog and I love my dog very very much.
My boyfriend and I have been living together for 4 months now. Prior to living together we dated for over a year and he would come by the house often, so that sollie would be used to having him around. He is also a dog lover and like me, has grown up with dogs.
We are both really concerned about sollie's behavior since the living arrangements have changed.
When my boyfriend calls him, he will not respond unless I am around, and only then he comes to him, with his tail down and ears back and literally creeping on his paws. My boyfriend works at night and I work days so he is at home with sollie. He tells me that Sollie stays in a separate room all day tucked in a corner.
When we touch to kiss or hug my dog gets very upset. He starts to growl, pace, and whine. When my boyfriend walks around the house, Sollie will keep track of where he goes but will run away to avoid crossing his path when he seems to be walking toward him.
The funny thing is when my boyfriend comes home he gets so excited to see him pull up, and waits for him at the door. When he leaves, Sollie whines and seems sad to see him go.
This behavior confuses me so, and my boyfriend is hurt by Sollies action cause he wants to be able to walk and play with Sol. We tried having him feed Sol, walk Sol. The only time I have noticed Sollie getting comfortable with him is when my boyfriend pets him, then Sollie wants to play.
Please help me we don't know what to do or how to handle this.
Thanks
