Friends dog driving me nutty...
K... this one isn't about my dog, but I thought you guys may have some ideas regarding the best way to deal with it...
A friend of ours has a beautiful brindle pittbull and for the record, I love all breeds... some more than others, but I have no issues with any of them. These people live in the country and their driveway is at least a mile long. So I can understand why they would allow their dog to roam free. The problem is, they haven't trained him to listen, stay in a specific area... nothing. He's always loose and whenever you try to go to their house he will chase your car nipping at your tires... He has been hit from what I understand several times and when questioned the owners replied... he's just stupid... just hit him... he'll learn or he won't... I thought that was completely ignorant and opted not to go back there because I have no desire to hurt their dog. That's causing problems between my bf and I. He says I can just drive slow. The last time were there and this happend that's what I did, but I believe that would actually make it easier for the dog to bite my tires and hurt his mouth or even get pulled under my car. Which I don't feel is any better than outright hitting him doing 10-15 miles an hour. So for now we just don't go there and argue whenever my bf wants to go see his buddy. He has seizures so he can't drive himself. Any ideas about things I can try in an effort to at least keep the dog away from my car while it's moving... anyone else will have to figure out their own way. Someone mentioned spraying with a solution of water and vinegar when he gets close to the car, but that wouldn't be very nice would it...lol It might get in his eyes and would burn??? Anyway... all suggestions welcome
Thanks,
Krissy

I personally would talk to your friends about the issue. It is something that they should get a handle on. I think if you told them what their dog is doing and that he may get killed if he continues. If they are responsible people, they would take control of the problem. If not, when the dog tries to bite the tires, stop the car and get out and make a loud sound and that will distract him long enough until you get to the house. Like I said, the dog should be tought this by the owner (pack leader).
Good luck

Personally I would ask the owner of the dog to bring the dog inside when you are coming and going. It is a very dangerous game the dog is playing with cars. Border Collies and other herding dogs do the same thing. Your boyfriend needs to understand and respect your concerns for this dog. "Don't worry or It will be allright or Just drive slow" are the famous last words we always hear about and never listen too. If that dog does get hurt you will have to live with that-NOT GOOD. I would hold your ground in the name of safety and concern. If the dog owner doesn't comply then I wouldn't go there....period

I know... that's why I stopped going there. I tried talking to them but they don't get it. They chaulk it up to being "the stupid pittbull in him"... I was thinking when she said that, that it wasn't anything like that but more so the ignorant owner who never taught him any better. He is a beautiful dog and has a wonderful temperment... He's still a baby... it would really be a shame to see something happen to him. A part of me kind of wishes someone would report them to animal control before something bad does happen. A friend of theirs told me he's been hit a couple times... I've yelled, screamed... blown my horn everything I could think of when he got to my tires.... He'd back off a little like a puppy does when they're waiting for a toy and as soon as i started to move he was right back on me... No... I would be devestated if I hit him. That's my biggest argument with my bf. If it happens, I don't want it to be me who does it and I definately don't want my son (who's ALWAYS with me) to see it. I've never hit and killed an animal. I did hit a deer once. When I was younger I was standing at the end of my parents driveway, and my cat was across the road on the neighbours lawn... A truck came by, swirved up onto the lawn and intentionally killed my cat. It's traumatic for a child, especially one who may not be able to process what happened like most would.
Well it's nice to know I'm not just being a b@$%& and that I'm not the only person who would just not go there anymore. BF's biggest argument is that I'm over reacting. I don't think so, even more so after talking to you guys! You know... it's about half way up the driveway we see the dog... maybe I'll just drop him off at the beginning of the road and he can walk in!!! LMAO
Thanks guys... Have a great day!
