New Dogs, Aggression growls. A good friend of mine has a Husky Wolf mix. (Chevy) He is not neutered yet, and he is approximately 9 months. He has not been around another dog since his litter was of age (9 weeks). He has a very playful and energetic personality.
Recently my friend adopted another dog from the SPCA. (Nova) This dog is full bred husky and he is 10 months old. Nova seems to be very laid back. He is pleasant and extremely calm. He doesn't seem to react to Chevy's playful whims.
As expected there is some adjustment needed for the dogs to cope with this new situation. Chevy is showing signs of a determined dominant temperament. He will not let the new dog get any attention. He is consistently body blocking the new dog, and approaching in a head on manner.
Chevy defecates in Nova's eating area, and produces a low growl - ears tilted forward, blocky body stance.
I also have noticed that Chevy will walk upto Nova and lick the sides of his face. I know that this is a sign of respect normally, which is what confuses me.
Also, in the process of licking, Chevy tones up his tail and stance in a playful manner and continues to then nip at Nova's face.
Most of this seems normal, but they are having outburst which has resulted in injuries in both the dogs and the human members of the household.
What can we do to make them more pleasant and accepting of each other.
