Default new puppy (help Please)

Hi all, I am new here, I hope you can give me some advice..
We have an 8 year old Samoyed called Nook he has been part of our family since he was 17 weeks old, is very loving, affectionate, playfull, very vocal, totally hyper at times, but dosen't have an agressive bone in his body & we love him to bits. (we know he lets us think were the boss!)
Here's my problem (we have loads) we have 2 cats 6 month old, he is very happy with them around,is used to cats as we have had them before.
3 weeks ago we were given a 9 week old mixed breed puppy, we have named Biscuit, Nook was & still is over the moon ( we have always thought he needed a pal) however the puppy is even more hyper than him, playfully! biting at everything in sight (he's a puppy) the puppy gets over excited biting at nook (we often find lumps of fur in his mouth) but it seems it just dosen't give up, nook is barking like mad, because he's excited too, it's jumping up biting at him all the time, nook rolls him over prods him, pushes him away but he still comes back.(we have caught biscuit coughing (choking a few times)) yesterday i saw the reason! when biscuit dosen't give up nook gets him by the throat, only momentarily but enough to make him choke....is this normal behavior..I'm a bit worried..(even this only deters him for a few moments) I think my samoyed is beign terrorised by my now 12 week old puppy!!!

your sammy is playing mom & siblings to the puppy, & teaching him that this is unacceptable behavior. he is being extremely patient & kind to bisquit but even the best dog in the world can get pushed to far.

don't ever leave them unattended together & you need to start getting the puppy under control. google NILIF for some info & start using it right away.

you are crating the puppy yes? are you walking nook seperately & taking special time for him alone?

I would have never put a puppy with an 8 yr old dog & this is exactly why - but then you didn't ask me. lol

as soon as this puppy's shots have been completed I would suggest you get him into OB classes.

what are you feeding him?
