Default attacking the trash! help!

ok, so this is my first official problem on this forum.... my dog kelly is about 12-13 yrs. old and has never really been a trash eater or chewed up personal belongings. of course she gets curious and sniffs the trash, but nothing we have to worry about. anyway, twice this week, she has torn up the trash. i mean, holes all in the trash bag and there was garbage all over the kitchen. i am very confused by this behavior. why all of a sudden would she do this twice in the same week? please help me with this!

she definately needs a trip to the vet for a complete physical & blood panel. dogs just like people as they age can suffer from dementia, or she could have a nurological issue or other health problem.

get a container with a snap on lid to keep your trash in.

has anything changed in her life?

make sure he knows of this sudden change in behavior so he can do a prelim nurological exam. a regular vet can only do so much & then it requires a specialist.

she is spayed, yes? so that it would not be hormonal problem?

please let us know what you find out.

thanks for your suggestions. when we get an appointment, i will tell the vet. we haven't had the trash out lately, so i don't know if she will do it again. and yes, she is spayed. hopefully, it's nothing to worry about. i will keep you posted.
