My 2 year old female dashshund has started crying all the time and packing a certain dog toy around. She wont let her daddy (dog) go near it and she carries it everywhere. She crys and whines all the time and we have tried everything. We give her lots of attention and she sleeps with one of us every night. at day she stays awake all day to protect it.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Oh it seems that your dog is over protected to her toys...I guess you need to know why she always cry...if it is because of the toys let her be with her toy all day...I guess that is a good solution...but if there is another reason better find it soon so that you can analyzed how to solve it...

#1, stop giving her so much attention and get her out of the bed. You are making the problem worse.

#2, IGNORE HER! Why are you focusing so much on her whining? Walk away! You are feeding the energy with negative attention.

#3, she needs more exercise. She has pent up energy and she's expressing it through undesired behaviors

Take back control of your house. Go for walks and ignore her behavior or correct with with Positive Punishment such as a squirt bottle to the face.

I don't know where daleigh got the information passed on, but I totally disagree. I think you should take her to the vet, to make sure that there is no underlying health issue and if there isn't, then I would suggest contacting a dog behaviorist. I'm not an expert by any means, but it sounds as if she is treating this toy as either a treasured possession or a "baby". Is your dog spayed? If not, could she be in heat? Definitely check with the vet first, and as for sleeping with you or giving her more attention, I don't think there is anything wrong with what you have tried so far. Keep us posted. Good luck!
